Love homemade pizza recipes? Wait till you hear this one – a classic deep-pan pepperoni pizza that takes shape in a slow cooker. With just pepperoni, tomato sauce, cheese and ready-made pizza dough, you can enjoy a warm slice of pizza (with gooey cheese and chewy crust) in all its fresh-out-of-the-oven glory.

Ingredients

  • 500 g pizza dough
  • 80 g sliced pepperoni
  • ½ cup (130 g) thick pasta sauce
  • ⅔ cup (65 g) grated pizza cheese
  • ½ cup fresh basil leaves
  • Olive-oil spray
01.

Preheat slow cooker on low.

02.

Remove slow cooker insert from base and line with foil; spray foil well with oil. Remove dough from packets and knead together lightly to form a ball. Place dough in insert. Return insert to slow cooker. Cook, covered, for 45 mins to prove.

03.

Adjust setting to high. Push dough down lightly, pressing it out towards the side of insert to cover the base and create a thick rim. Place half the pepperoni over base. Spread over pasta sauce, then top with remaining pepperoni and the cheese. Cook, covered, for 4 hrs.

04.

Preheat oven grill on medium.

05.

Remove pizza from slow cooker; place on an oven tray. Grill for 10 mins or until cheese and crust are browned.

06.

Top pizza with basil; serve straight away.

TIP We used ready-made pizza dough and a fresh pasta sauce from the refrigerator section of supermarkets. Use sliced salami or ham instead of pepperoni, if you like. Serve it with simple green salad.
