These festive crackers are great for getting the kids involved in some holiday baking. Easy to make, they are perfect for homemade Christmas gifts or as treat to leave for Santa on Christmas Eve.


  • 250 g unsalted butter, chilled, chopped
  • 2 1/2 cups plain flour
  • 1/4 cup cornflower
  • 1 tsp fine salt
  • 1/4 tsp cayenne pepper
  • 1 cup cheddar cheese, grated
  • 1 bunch chives, snipped
  • 2 tbsps water, iced

Preheat oven to 160 C. Line a large oven tray with baking paper.


In a food processor, pulse butter, flour, cornflour, salt and cayenne pepper until mixture breadcrumbs. Add cheese, chives and water. Process until mixture just comes together.


Divide mixture in 2. Roll each out between 2 sheets baking paper until 5mm thick. Place on a tray and freeze for 10 mins until firm.


Cut Christmas tree and star shapes from dough. Place on tray 2 cm apart. Bake for 10 to 12 mins until golden around edges. Cool for 5 mins on tray before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.

Tips: Re-roll off cuts of pastry to make more biscuits. Store in an airtight container
