You can eat it as it is. Or you can pair it with ice cream, or even add it into a cake recipe. This versatile savoury apple sauce recipe is a keeper! It also makes a wonderful accompaniment to rich, savoury dishes like pork chop, roasted pork and beef steak.
- 6 medium (900g) red delicious apples, peeled, sliced
- 1/2 cup (125ml) brandy
- 1/4 cup (60ml) lemon juice
- pinch ground cloves
- 1 cinnamon stick
- 1/4 cup (55g) brown sugar
Combine all ingredients in a medium pan. Bring to a boil; then reduce the heat, simmer, covered, for about 10 mins.
Stir, cook, uncovered, for about 20 minutes until thickened. And serve.
Skip the brandy if you’re making it for kids. Suitable for freeze.
