A traditional dish that can’t be missed during Chinese New Year, steamed chicken with radish and red dates is both delicious and healthy. Eating red dates during Chinese New Year brings hope of prosperity to the household. Besides that, it is also a herb commonly used in soups to boost the immune system. Using this ingredient in dishes symbolises that you have a fruitful year ahead.
1Clean whole chicken and lightly rub with salt and pepper, put sliced ginger inside chicken.
2Place 1.5 liters of water in a double deck steamer and add white radish, red dates and steam the chicken atop for about 50 mins till chicken is cooked.
3Remove the chicken and place it on a large plate, place the white radish and red dates onto a smaller plate.
4Add the wolfberries, oyster sauce, Chinese wine, and fa cai and bring it to a soft boil. Thicken with a little bit of corn starch.
5Gently rub some sesame oil over the chicken.
6Transfer the chicken onto a cutting board and cut it into smaller portions.
7Place the radish onto a serving plate. Place the chicken on top of the radish, and add in the rest of the ingredients.
