If like us, you’ve been down a rabbit hole of bingeing on videos of internet celebrity ‘Uncle Roger’, you’ll be able to catch him in the flesh next year at Singapore’s Capitol Theatre, where he’s slated to perform a stand-up comedy show.
The YouTube sensation is a middle-aged Asian uncle character created by London-born Malaysian comedian Nigel Ng, 30, and went viral for his withering (and hilarious) commentary of BBC Food presenter Hersha Patel’s method of making egg fried rice.
He later went on to create videos of him reviewing various recipe videos of fried rice and other Asian dishes, including ones by celeb chefs including Jamie Oliver, Nigella Lawson, and even Gordon Ramsay. It has since garnered him 4.56 million subscribers on YouTube to date.
He also helms the comedy podcast Rice To Meet You, which he hosts together with Swedish-born Chinese comedian Evelyn Mok, and has appeared on various TV shows including Comedy Central’s Stand Up Central and Roast Battle, BBC Two’s Mock The Week, and ITV’s Jonathan Ross Comedy Club.
Most recently, he’s taken to the road for his Nigel Ng: The Haiyaa Tour, which has seen him perform in Britain, Australia, New Zealand, Malaysia, and Japan, and which his Singapore stop is a part of.
But it’s not his first time on our shores, though. He last made an appearance here at The Merry Lion Comedy Club, albeit before Uncle Roger was born.
