We take inspiration from the classic Indian sweet, gulab jamun, for these pretty cupcakes. As a nod to the traditional recipe, these treats are made without eggs. The primary flavour of gulab jamun comes from saffron, and they’re infused with rose water — gulab means rose. With these cupcakes, the rose flavour comes in the form of pink frosting made with rose syrup (bandung). Further topped with dried roses and chopped pistachios, make for pretty gifts for friends and family, and to celebrate Deepavali, which is on Oct 24, 2022.

This recipe makes 10 muffin-sized cupcakes (large) or 12 standard cupcakes (small).
