These Artistic Limited-Edition Beauty Collabs Deserve A Spot On Your Vanity
Beloved beauty products are given a creative uplift with limited edition designed packaging
Artists are making their foray into the beauty industry by turning our beauty favourites into canvases and our dressing tables into exhibition spaces. Here are three beauty collaborations that will add an artistic touch to any vanity.
It’s been a decade since Louis Vuitton first joined forces with acclaimed Japanese contemporary artist Yayoi Kusama (pictured left). The 94-year-old visual artist is famed for her immersive, kaleidoscopic polka-dot and mirror installations.
long-standing partnership with the visionary, Louis Vuitton has once again teamed up with Kusama, this time with the artist’s instantly recognisable motifs adorning three of the brand’s signature fragrances – Attrape-Reves, Spell On You and L’Immensite.
Whimsical and dreamy, Attrape-Reves features hints of bright peony and gourmand cocoa, supported by base notes of patchouli and lychee. This limited edition version is decorated with Kusama’s trademark polka dots in a gradation of black, silver, grey and white.
Her penchant for relentless, colourful dots also appears on this exclusive version of L’Immensite, a travel-inspired fragrance that effortlessly blends top notes of citrus and grapefruit with heart notes of sage and geranium, before revealing a sensual base of amber and labdanum.
Meanwhile, Spell On You, a scent dreamed up by master perfumer Jacques Cavallier Belletrud that triumphantly captures the delicate beauty and complexity of iris pallida, has been updated with Kusama’s signature infinity dots.
Besides Kusama, the French luxury house has collaborated with other artists such as Takashi Murakami and Jeff Koons over the years, solidifying its status as a cultural powerhouse.
For its festive Moongarden collection, KVD Beauty collaborated with celebrated artist Miryam Lumpini (pictured right, recently named the brand’s global director of tattoo artistry) to create special packaging for the products and boxes.
The line-up includes a vibrant palette for the eyes (ranging from shimmery jewel tones to subtle peaches), the brand’s signature Tattoo Pencil Eyeliner in two new shades (metallic white Electrum gold and metallic bronze Bronzite gold), two new Dazzle Vegan Eyeshadow Sticks (in a ruby shade Heat Burst and emerald shade Green Flash) and the cult-favourite Everlasting Hyperlight Liquid Lipsticks in exclusive shades (jet black Black Briar and rusty red Cobra Lily) – all artfully splashed with Lumpini’s handdrawn designs.
Known for her use of jewel-toned animal portraits and use of daring, bold colours, Lumpini’s designs are instantly distinguishable.
The 32-year-old revealed that she’s always been a big fan of the brand and added that “it’s creating more acceptance for tattoo culture, and encouraging the community to look at it as a form of selfexpression”.
She says: “In the past, tattoos were stigmatised, and anyone with one was labelled a rebel. KVD Beauty, however, has recognised them as an art form, and given a chance to artists like me, who were otherwise overlooked in the beauty industry.”
Chinese artist Li Hongbo (pictured right) worked with French luxury beauty brand Guerlain to incorporate his intricate paper sculptures in a limited edition version of the brand’s best-selling Orchidee Imperiale Black The Cream.
The star ingredient of this elixir is the black orchid, which blooms thrice a year in harsh, low-light conditions. Just like other products in Guerlain’s Orchidee Imperiale Black line – its most luxurious skincare range to date – The Cream is produced with the brand’s patented Blackimmune technology to enhance skin’s luminosity.
Li, who specialises in a traditional technique in Chinese paper gourd making, created an elaborate honeycombshaped paper ornament that pays tribute to Guerlain’s history and legacy, while doubling as a pedestal for the jar.
As part of the collaboration, the Beijing-based artist also reimagined the black orchid, which has been carefully hand-painted in 24K gold by master porcelain artist Fernand Penichon.
Each jar requires one month’s work and the involvement of 50 craftspeople. With only 1,000 of these jars being produced worldwide (15 in Singapore), this is truly a testament of the brand’s dedication to both art and luxury.
All products are available now, while stocks last.
