Though it may seem superficial for some, makeup, skincare, and beauty routines can go more than skin deep. Whether it's a form of self-expression or confidence, beauty plays a role in physical and mental health. When it comes to chemotherapy, treatments can take a physical toll on the body. The side effects alone, like hair loss, fatigue, skin problems and weight fluctuation, can affect confidence levels as well.

And while this may be the case, for some, there is still comfort to be found through beauty routines. The physical reminder of looking like themselves can translate to an emotional and mental state of feeling like themselves.

Many brands and organisations have made the initiative to support cancer patients with beauty tutorials. For one, Shiseido opened Shiseido Life Quality Centre (SLQC) in Singapore in 2019 as a space to educate and empower women on the power of beauty and self-care. And they've also created a dedicated Beauty Book with makeup advice and tips for cancer patients.
