Many women experience period pains (also known as dysmenorrhea) during their menstrual cycle. The pain, which ranges from dull to severe, are usually nothing to worry about. But when the pain gets too extreme, a woman may be suffering from a condition called endometriosis, which affects about 10 per cent of all women.

According to the KK Endometriosis Centre, as many as 30 per cent of women complaining about severe menstrual pain are found to be suffering from endometriosis. However, the condition is often under diagnosed.
We spoke to Dr Steven Teo, obstetrician and gynaecologist from STO+G Practice in Thomson Medical Centre who specialises in the diagnosis and treatment of endometriosis. Here are 10 things you should know about the condition:
