At 36 weeks pregnant, it’s hard to feel like doing anything other than resting, eating, and being pampered – which is why when I found out about the new thoughtful babymoon package at Fairmont Singapore, I jumped at the chance for a night away with my husband, without my two toddlers, and an easy 15-minute drive from home.

Check-in and room review

We arrived around 3:30pm on a Thursday, which made check-in a breeze (no long weekend queues).  We were assigned a Gold room on the 24th floor, giving us spectacular city views both day and night.

The room was spacious and stylish, with a fully-packed minibar and coffee station and my personal fave - a refillable set of water bottles and an in-room filtered cold water dispenser.  This handy feature ensures that expecting (and breastfeeding) mamas can stay well-hydrated without having to call the front desk multiple times a day for more water or waste a bunch of single-use plastic bottles, something I hate having to do in typical hotel stays since I drink about three litres per day while pregnant.

My eye immediately caught an adorable woven toiletries bag left on the desk containing a complimentary Clarins Beautiful Pregnancy Kit (valued at $96!), one of the luxury product inclusions in the babymoon package.  The kit had everything from a stretch mark cream (majorly useful during my third trimester) to an elasticity-enhancing treatment oil and a pregnancy-safe double serum eye cream, all of which I was excited to apply after relaxing in the deep, spacious bathtub later than evening.

A staycation well-fed

A couple of macarons and chocolates later, we ventured up to the Fairmont Gold Lounge, another key privilege of the Babymoon package, for complimentary drinks, snacks, and canapes before dinner (yes, mamas – there’s plenty of food in this package, even for a late-pregnancy appetite!).  A quick note for those “uber relaxed” staycationers like my husband and me – there is a no-sandals, no-shorts, no-tank-tops dress code in the Lounge in the evening, so make sure to bring at least one smart casual set of clothes for your stay.

Calling the Gold Lounge food “canapes” would be a lot like calling the Pacific Ocean a “pond” – the selection was incredible, with everything from local fare like fish curry and dumplings to healthy options like grilled broccoli and a fresh salad bar to high-quality selections like international cheeses and Wagyu beef.  Cocktails and beer and wine were on offer, too, but being pregnant, my husband and I opted for pineapple and earl grey mocktails, which were delicious, and not cloyingly sweet.

We may have “overstayed” our welcome in the Gold Lounge a bit to watch the evening sunset, arriving to our tapas dinner at ANTI:DOTE feeling a bit too full for a big meal.  We opted instead for some light appetisers and sparkling water, tucked into a quiet corner of the main restaurant. A quick note here for the pregnant mamas: a lot of the dishes contain raw and alcoholic elements, so it’s worth reminding your server of your dietary needs.

In-room relaxation

After dinner, all I wanted was a warm bath and a rest – and I definitely got top-notch versions of both.  The Clarins Beautiful Pregnancy Kit made sure I could maintain my usual beauty routine (including an intensive face moisturiser, rich belly oil, and even an eye serum) and the bed was spacious and comfortable.   My one note for improvement here?  Despite the myriad Pillow Concierge offerings, there was no option to order a pregnancy pillow – so it’s “BYOP” if you need that extra level of comfort and support at bedtime.

A wholesome start to the day

Breakfast was also offered in the Gold Lounge, which I preferred since I don’t love fighting the crowds or queueing for omelettes at a typical hotel buffet.  Here, our coffee orders were  taken and delivered before we even sat down, and there was no waiting even for custom orders like an egg white omelette.  The selections were diverse and again included great healthy options like green juice, a gluten-free section, and fresh fruit and yoghurts, all enjoyed alongside sweeping floor-to-ceiling sunrise views of the city (Despite leaving our toddlers at home, we are still chronically early risers!)

Since both my husband and I are avid exercisers, we were pleased with the fantastic fitness options at the Fairmont.  Perfect for pregnant mamas, they offer onsite aqua fitness classes (drop-in classes are 50 per cent off for hotel guests!) daily by the Ripple Club in the beautiful hotel pool. And the fully-equipped gym (think squat racks, machines, and functional equipment, not to mention an entire floor of cardio machines) is open 24 hours a day, complete with orange-infused spa water and towel service.  This fit mama had no problem staying on her usual strength training routine, and being able to walk right across the same floor to my spa treatment was an added bonus.

Basking in spa bliss

Fairmont hotels boast the revered Willow Stream spa brand, and this 50,000 square-foot outpost did not disappoint.  I went in for the Customised Deep Cleansing Facial, included in the babymoon package, while my husband enjoyed the also-included Gentleman’s Power Facial – both luxurious, hour-long treatments.  The treatments were delivered promptly and professionally, and we were invited to stay and utilise the full day spa facilities (jacuzzis, cold plunge, sauna, and steam rooms) at our leisure.

My therapist was so thoughtful and asked what temperature I’d prefer both the room and the bed (since the bed can be heated, but some expecting mamas feel hot enough already), at what angle I’d prefer the bed to be set (since lying flat is no longer comfortable nor recommended at my stage of pregnancy) and whether I’d like a bolster under my knees – all customised touches that made the relaxing treatment feel even more special.  She even made product recommendations for my hormone-affected skin and sent me off with samples of some of the in-house products to try at home.

If I could ask for one improvement to the spa service, it would be only that my husband and I were delivered our treatments together in a couples’ room to really enhance the romantic vibe.  Note also that Willow Stream does not offer prenatal massages at this time, so if you’re looking to extend your spa day into other treatments, keep that in mind.

Parting Thoughts

We opted to finish our staycation with an hour by the pool, accompanied by tasty light bites and the poolside lemon-infused spa water.  While the pool is definitely kid-friendly, don’t expect it to be particularly relaxing or serene – it’s more of a daytime party and family vibe than a quiet, romantic one.   That said, we enjoyed taking a quick plunge on a beautiful, sunny day – the ideal end to 24 hours of pampering and indulgence.

And while I’m officially finished having kids after this pregnancy, knowing that amazing, well-planned Babymoons like this exist in Singapore could almost make me consider a fourth…almost.

The babymoon package at Fairmont Singapore is available until March 31, 2024. Rates start at $775.20++ ($687.68++ for Accor Plus Members). The package includes $100 worth of dining credits that can be used
across Fairmont Singapore’s food and beverage outlets during the stay.
