How to get to Batam

Travelling by ferry to Batam is super convenient and you have many options. It only takes 30 to 45 minutes to get to one of the five international ferry ports, so you can pick the one closest to your hotel (though picking an alternative if tickets are in short supply is also a possibility since you can always get a taxi or transfer from wherever you land). Singaporeans can travel to Batam visa-free as can citizens from nine ASEAN countries, everyone else will need to purchase a visa on arrival for $42. You can take a ferry from either Tanah Merah Ferry Terminal or HarbourFront Terminal and prices start at $76 round-trip.

The five Batam ferry ports

Harbour Bay (northern coast)
Batam Centre (closest to the city centre)
Sekupang (north-western coast)
Waterfront City (western coast)
Nongsapura (north-eastern coast)

Depending on the kind of holiday you want, Batam has lots of family-friendly hotel options. You just have to decide if you’re visiting for a relaxing beach sojourn or perhaps something more adventurous. Or maybe you just want to hang out at the malls to shop, massage, and eat (sounds good to us). These Batam hotels and resorts either make for great jumping spots to do all that, or offer enough seclusion to relax by a great pool or beach — it’s all up to you.

Located right across from the street from Grand Batam Mall, this chic, art-inspired hotel is a modern, funky hotel. While its offerings are pretty basic, the aim is to use it as a base and spend more time outside. Even then, Eatspace restaurant is a good place to enjoy a mix of local cuisine and Western cuisine, either before heading out or when you come back. Head over to the mall and enjoy watching your Singapore dollar go a longer way. We recommend the Kidzilla indoor playground if you have little ones, and while they’re there, treat yourself to a massage at either Reborn within the mall or Kamaya Spa across the street.
