“First of all, you’re not missing out on much.”

That was my colleague Beverly’s opening reassurance when I asked her about dating today. Naturally, I wanted to hear more.

I’ve been married for 14 years and a mum for 11. My days are mostly occupied by what happens after finding someone to build a life with, and well, dealing with my growing kids. But sitting across from Beverly, who’s 28 and single, I was curious about how that earlier chapter had changed.

At Too Tired Mums, we often talk about raising children. With fewer marriages and a falling birth rate in Singapore, it’s worth listening to people who are still figuring out relationships – and understanding what finding someone to build a life with feels like today.

So Beverly brought me up to speed: the seemingly endless options, the effort of getting to know someone, and a promising first date that took an unexpected turn.

Thirty to 40 dates over five years gave us plenty to talk about. Her dating life has been colourful, no doubt. What heartened me was how she felt about finding love after it all.

Whether you’re still swiping or haven’t been on a first date in years, there’s plenty to compare notes on.

Too Tired Mums is The Singapore Women’s Weekly’s original talk show series that gives motherhood its most honest voice — where real mums open up about the things we don’t always say out loud, reminding us that we’re never truly alone.
