Not sure where to go for a short getaway with your kids? Instead of the usual haunt for Singaporeans, AKA Johor Bahru, why not travel a little farther to Legoland Malaysia?

With offerings for the young 'uns, the older kids and the whole family, Legoland Malaysia is literally every kid’s heaven. Beyond the theme park, there’s also a water park and a sea aquarium within the compound, so your family will never run out of things to do! If you’re thinking about doing an overnight trip, you can consider staying at Legoland Hotel, located right beside the parks for the utmost convenience.

Here’s an all-inclusive 2D1N Legoland itinerary centred around the park, including recommendations on how to travel there and where to eat.

Note: The itinerary and timings recommended in this article are based on the writer's personal experience. Timings and traffic conditions may vary, especially during peak seasons.

DAY 1 — 8am to 9am: Depart Singapore for Legoland

In order to make your money’s worth, try to get to the theme park before its opening hours at 10am.

If you’re only planning a day trip and intend to enter the park immediately upon arrival, 9am would be an ideal time to leave Singapore (Note: may vary based on traffic conditions). However, if you’re planning to drop off your luggage at a hotel first, leave slightly earlier at around 8am.

There are three main ways to get to Legoland Malaysia from Singapore: driving, taking a public bus, or chartering a private bus or minivan.

By car

The most convenient way to get to Legoland Malaysia from Singapore is by driving. The journey takes about an hour and a half, depending on traffic conditions.

Here's how to get there:

  1. Take the Ayer Rajah Expressway (AYE) towards Tuas.
  2. Keep left and follow signs for the Second Link Expressway (SLE).
  3. Pay the toll at the SLE toll plaza.
  4. Follow the SLE until you reach the Woodlands Checkpoint.
  5. Clear immigration and customs in Singapore.
  6. Proceed to the Malaysia Customs, Immigration, and Quarantine (CIQ) Complex.
  7. Clear immigration and customs in Malaysia.
  8. Follow signs for Legoland Malaysia. The Legoland Malaysia exit is clearly marked. From the customs, it takes around 20 minutes to reach your destination (Note: may vary based on traffic conditions).

By bus

Several public bus companies operate services from Singapore to Legoland Malaysia. Here are two popular options:

  • Causeway Link: Causeway Link offers direct bus services from various locations in Singapore to Legoland Malaysia. The journey takes about two to three hours. You can purchase tickets online or at the bus terminal. You can find more information here.
  • Transtar/WTS Travel: Transtar and WTS Travel both also offer express bus services from Singapore to Legoland Malaysia. The journey takes about two hours. You can purchase tickets online (from $12 per way for Transtar/from $13 per way for WTS Travel) or at the Kranji MRT Bus Interchange.

Buses and coaches will typically depart between 9am to 9.30am, so do take note.

By chartered bus/minivan

If you don’t drive and don’t want to squeeze with other travellers at the customs, chartering a private bus or minivan is a great option for groups or families travelling together. Several companies in Singapore offer chartered bus services to Legoland Malaysia. This option provides more flexibility and can be more comfortable than taking a public bus.

Another perk is that you won’t have to get down at the customs to queue to get your passport physically chopped, especially great for seniors or children in your group who cannot queue for long periods of time.

Naturally, when going to Legoland, one simply mustn’t miss the opportunity to stay in their titular hotel, right?

As Legoland’s hotel only permits room check-ins after 4pm, you can request to leave and store your luggage at the hotel beforehand.
