Meet 8 hawksbill turtle hatchlings at Singapore Oceanarium

Credit: Resorts World Sentosa

There’s a new group of tiny ocean stars to meet at the Singapore Oceanarium – and they’re only here for a limited time. In collaboration with NParks, the Oceanarium is currently caring for eight endangered hawksbill turtle hatchlings as part of a special “headstart” conservation programme designed to give them a stronger chance of surviving in the wild.

Here’s an important fact to know: the odds are incredibly tough for sea turtles, with only about one in 1,000 hatchlings surviving into adulthood. To help tip the scales, these little ones are being raised under round-the-clock care until they grow bigger, stronger and better equipped for life in the open ocean.

Originally hatched at NParks’ turtle hatchery on Small Sisters’ Island, the turtles have now moved into a specially designed habitat at the Oceanarium’s Horizontal Migration Zone, where families can observe them up close. The enclosure is carefully designed to mimic natural conditions while shielding the hatchlings from human interaction, helping them develop natural behaviours like foraging before their eventual release.

For kids especially, it’s a rare chance to see young sea turtles during one of the most vulnerable stages of their lives, and a lovely way to spark conversations about marine conservation.

When: Until early 2027
Where: Singapore Oceanarium, 24 Sentosa Gateway, Sentosa Island, Singapore 098137
How much: From $43 per child, $55 per adult

There are also exclusive Pokemon Pokopia sun visors and merchandise giveaways while stocks last. The truck will be stopping at Plaza Singapura (May 1-3), Funan (May 8-10), Our Tampines Hub (May 15-17), Suntec City (May 22-24), and PLQ (May 29-31).

Swiss Weeks 2026

Credit: Swiss Weeks

If your idea of a family day out involves bouncy castles, Swiss snacks, live music and kids running wild on a slip-and-slide, Swiss Weeks 2026 might deserve a spot on your May calendar. Returning from April 21 to June 9, 2026, this islandwide cultural festival brings a playful slice of Switzerland to Singapore through a line-up of family-friendly activities, workshops and performances.

One of the biggest highlights is Summer Evening with Marius Bear happening at Swiss Club Singapore on May 16. Expect a full carnival-style atmosphere with game booths, laser tag, inflatable play zones, candy floss, popcorn and ice cream stations to keep little ones very occupied. There’s even a flea market next door at the Swiss School if you feel like browsing between activities. As the evening rolls in, Swiss pop singer Marius Bear – known for representing Switzerland at Eurovision 2022 – takes the stage for his first-ever live solo performance in Singapore.

Besides the main event, Swiss Weeks also features plenty of free and affordable activities across Singapore, including a free screening of Heidi, geology and gemology workshops for kids, family movie nights, nature walks, yoga classes and hands-on cooking experiences inspired by Swiss culture.

Rainforest Wild Adventure (second phase)

Credit: Mandai Wildlife Group

PSA: Rainforest Wild Adventure is opening its second phase from May 20, completing the full 20-hectare experience across habitats inspired by the rainforests of Asia and Africa. Better still, one park ticket now covers both zones, with selected Adventure+ activities included.

For families, the big win is how this park blends wildlife with movement and play. There are wide walkways and forest treks suitable for strollers and wheelchairs, but also plenty of low-barrier adventure elements for active kids. In the new East zone (formerly Rainforest Wild Africa), families can try experiences like the Canopy Glider and Ravine Swing, while little explorers on foot can wander through habitats where animal sightings feel more like spontaneous discoveries than fixed “look here” exhibits.

The East zone is themed around Afro-tropical and Madagascan landscapes, with animals including pygmy hippos, eastern bongos, red river hogs, Nile lechwe and a multi-species Madagascar habitat. A major highlight is the okapi, making its Southeast Asia debut here – a wonderfully unusual rainforest animal with zebra-striped legs that will definitely catch kids’ attention.

As part of the soft opening, ticket holders can also enjoy up to nine Adventure+ activities on weekdays and up to five on weekends, making this feel like a full family day out rather than just a regular zoo visit.

When: From May 20, 2026
Where: Rainforest Wild Adventure East & West, Mandai, Singapore 20 Mandai Lake Road, Singapore 729825
How much: WildPass rates - $50/adult, $35/child (3 to 12) and local student (25 and below), $25/senior; free WildPass sign-up required

Magic of Together at Esplanade Theatre Studio

Credit: Esplanade

If you’ve got kids who are in a phase where every five minutes sounds like “Mummy, I’m bored” followed by sibling squabbling, Together at Esplanade might feel very familiar. This interactive theatre show follows Gor Gor and Mei Mei, two siblings stuck at home in their HDB flat with no iPad to distract them and a mum busy with back-to-back online meetings.

What starts as a very ordinary day soon turns into something much more magical. Their flat transforms into a gateway to whimsical worlds, where the pair meet quirky characters and stumble into little adventures that gently nudge them towards cooperation, problem-solving and, yes, getting along.

Created by Isabella Chiam, this 45-minute performance celebrates the power of imaginative play in a way that feels especially relatable for families with young children. It’s lively, playful and warm, while also quietly touching on important social-emotional skills like empathy, listening and respecting each other’s differences.

Superstar Boutique & Café in Universal Studios Singapore

Credit: Universal Studios Singapore’s Instagram

Here’s a new stop at Universal Studios Singapore. Superstar Boutique and Superstar Cafe have officially opened, bringing a cheerful dose of kawaii magic to the park with shopping, sweet treats and character moments all rolled into one.

At Superstar Boutique, kids can browse a colourful range of park-exclusive Sanrio merchandise, from plushies and keychains to stationery and accessories featuring favourites like Hello Kitty and Pompompurin. The whole space is decked out with bright backdrops and playful details, so don’t be surprised if your child insists on stopping for photos every few steps. There are also meet-and-greet sessions with Sanrio characters, which add a nice little thrill for younger visitors.

Then there’s Superstar Cafe, where the desserts are very much part of the attraction. Think cute character-inspired sweets like Hello Kitty Strawberry Delight and Kuromi Black Sesame & Vanilla Swiss Roll, alongside colourful drinks that are practically made for photos.

Because it’s located inside USS, this works best as a mid-day break when the rides start to feel a bit much for smaller kids. You can cool down, grab a snack, let them admire all things adorable, and head back out when they’ve had their Sanrio fix.

Dorifto!: New Indoor Drifting Arena

Credit: Dorifto’s Instagram

Tucked away at Velocity @ Novena Square, this brand-new indoor arena is Singapore’s first-ever drifting experience, designed to make motorsports feel playful, accessible and a little bit cool.

The setup is especially fun for older kids and tweens who are at least 1.2m tall, since that’s the minimum height to drive. No licence or prior experience is needed, so first-timers can hop into one of the electric mini drift cars and learn the ropes in a controlled environment. The cars are fitted with safety bumpers too, which should reassure parents who are picturing full Fast & Furious chaos.

The whole space is styled like a little slice of Japan, with road signs, lanterns, trees and even a nod to Initial D that older anime fans will appreciate. It feels more like stepping into a themed play space than a standard driving track.

Sessions are short – around eight minutes – which works well for kids who want a taste of the thrill without getting too tired.

When: Weekdays 12-10pm, Weekends & PH 10-10pm
Where: 10 Sinaran Dr, #6A Carpark, Singapore 307683
How much: From $23 on weekdays (12pm-6pm)  and $28 on weekends & weekdays (after 6pm)

Children’s Museum programmes for May

Children’s Museum Singapore has a couple of lovely, hands-on programmes this May and June.

Then there’s Ms Nat. and the Zero Waste Heroes, happening on May 30 and 31, and June 5 and 6. This one is especially good for families with younger children, as it blends storytelling, movement and hands-on play into an engaging sustainability session. Kids and their grown-ups join Ms Nat and her friends to help lower the rising “Waste-O-Meter”, while learning about food waste, saving water and other simple green habits in ways they can actually understand.

The session wraps up with a lively hero chant and a recycled Zero-Waste Hero badge craft to bring home, which should go down nicely with little ones who enjoy a keepsake.

Also at Mandai Wildlife Reserve, here’s one to bookmark for kids who love screens, science and anything larger-than-life. Exploria, a brand-new indoor multimedia attraction, has opened, and it’s shaping up to be a rainy-day lifesaver. And it’s pretty special, since it’s one of Southeast Asia’s largest indoor, nature-themed multimedia attractions. You and the kids can experience extraordinary environments and phenomena, from prehistoric eras and extreme habitats, to microscopic ecosystems and the depths of ocean darkness.

Spanning a massive 10,000 sqm, Exploria takes families through five immersive “worlds” where nature is experienced at completely different scales. Start at Our Interconnected World, where a glowing four-metre LED globe pulses like a heartbeat. Every tap, scan and interaction sends ripples of light across the globe, helping kids see how small actions can create a big impact.

From there, little explorers can walk among towering dinosaurs in Realm of the Giants, complete with a dramatic 360-degree theatre show that sweeps through 500 million years of Earth’s history. In Micro Worlds, interactive glass orbs magnify plankton, fungi and insect colonies, ideal for curious kids who love peering at “gross but cool” things up close.

There’s also Extreme Frontiers, where simulator rooms transport families to icy Arctic landscapes and desert habitats, and Infinite Wonderland, which recreates lush rainforests and coral reefs in vivid detail. Even the mysterious World of Darkness introduces children to glowing deep-sea creatures and cave dwellers.

Each child gets an RFID wristband to create a digital avatar, collect species badges and unlock photo spots, adding a game-like layer that keeps them engaged throughout.
