The patty from our air-fryer cheeseburger recipe holds all the moisture for your burger to stay tender and juicy. Aside from being a little lighter on oil, this is one way to avoid the mess and the grease familiar with the stovetop.

Yield: Serves 4
Prep Time: 10 mins
Cook Time: 20 mins
Difficulty Level: 2/5

Ingredients

  • 500 g minced beef
  • 1 egg
  • ¾ cup (75 g) panko breadcrumbs
  • 2 tbsps barbecue sauce
  • 1 tbsp smoked paprika
  • 1 clove garlic, crushed
  • ¼ cup (70 g) low-sugar tomato sauce
  • 4 large brioche buns (400 g)
  • Olive oil cooking spray
  • 4 slices cheddar
  • 4 centre-cut bacon rashers (140 g)
  • 2 tbsps whole-egg mayonnaise
  • 4 baby cos lettuce leaves
  • ⅓ cup (40 g) burger pickles

TO SERVE

  • Sweet potato chips

Steps

01. Using your hands, combine beef, egg, breadcrumbs, barbecue sauce, paprika, garlic and 1 tbsp of the tomato sauce in a large bowl, then season; mix well. Shape mixture into four patties the same size as the brioche buns; ensure they will all fit into the air fryer basket. Spray all over with cooking spray.

02. Preheat a 7 litre air fryer to 180 C for 3 mins.

03. Spray the air fryer basket with cooking spray. Taking care, place patties in the basket; at 180 C, cook for 10 mins, turning halfway through cooking time, or until browned and cooked through. Transfer to a plate and top each with a slice of cheddar; cover loosely with foil to keep warm.

04. Arrange bacon in the air fryer basket. Reset the temperature to 200 C; cook for 5 mins until crisp.

05. Split and toast brioche buns. Spread bun bases with mayonnaise, then top with lettuce, patties, bacon, pickles and remaining tomato sauce; sandwich together with bun tops.

06. Serve cheeseburgers with sweet potato chips.
