Crispy beancurd or tofu is considered a traditional Chinese dish that's not just easy to whip up, but addictive and makes for a great dinner table addition, especially if you're short on time. This recipe by famous chicken rice chain Boon Tong Kee features a light and crispy exterior that uses its housemade Crispy Powder ($2.20+), which houses soft silken tofu within.

Ingredients

  • 1 packet Boon Tong Kee Crispy Powder
  • 1 packet silken tofu

Steps

01. Pour the Crispy Powder into a mixing bowl.

02. Cut the beancurd into 2cm-thick cubes.

03. Place the beancurd cubes into the mixing bowl with Crispy Powder and coat all sides of the cubes evenly with the powder.

04. Leave the ā€˜coated’ tofu in the mixing bowl for about three minutes before deep frying them in heated oil at a temperature of 180⁰C to 200⁰C.

05. Scoop out the deep-fried beancurd once the coating of the tofu turns golden brown.

06. Best served with sweet sauce or Chinese-style mayonnaise.
