Some of them even offer tours for a fun family trip
By Michelle Lee and Nikki Low -
While most of our food is imported from other countries, our island has a growing clutch of farms that contribute to Singapore's food resilience — think vegetables, mushrooms, eggs, goats and even oysters. And some of them also offer tours and hands-on experiences that'll make for a fun and educational family outing, too! Scroll down for our list of farms in Singapore to visit.
Opened in 1988, this is the only goat farm in Singapore, and houses a whopping number of more than 800 goats. Fed with alfalfa hay – an excellent source of protein and fibre – as well as a special feed from Australia, these goats are well fed, well nourished and produce fresh and healthy goat milk achieved by the latest milking, pasteurising process and bottling machines. In October last year, the farm also moved from its original premises in Lim Chu Kang to a new multi-storey barn in Kranji.
Until now, it is still being owned by the Hay family, with second-generation owner Leon Hay at the helm.
Bringing the kids to check out the milking process? This takes place from 9am to about 10.30am so head there early! Hay Dairies‘ goat milk is also available for purchase, and comes in original and chocolate flavours, in 200 ml ($3.20) and 800 ml ($9.40) bottles. Home delivery service is provided once a week, dependent on your location, and requires a minimum order of 1.6 litres. Click here for more information.
You can also get the individual bottles a tad cheaper by farm walk-in purchase at $2.50 and $8 respectively.
