Settle on one of the many comfy couches and floor cushions, while Studio Ghibli soundtracks play in the background and countryside scenes are beamed from a projector. You'll even find a British shorthair cat named Totoro lazing around.

Whisk & Waddles

Whisk and Waddles is run from the porch of a terraced house and opens only on Sundays. Only the porch is accessible to patrons and accommodates up to 15 people. Orders are placed through a Google form, and the exact location is revealed only after pre-payment. While you wait, you can dive into card games like Exploding Kittens and The Singaporean Dream that are scattered around for some casual fun.

Home cafes in Bukit Timah

Knead Kopi

Knead Kopi was opened for a reason close to heart — for founders Rachel Neo and her boyfriend Glendon Khoo to spend more time with Rachel's grandma, who has dementia. The pair run the cafe from her family's terrace's home porch in Bukit Timah. And instead of trendy brews, they serve traditional Nanyang kopi, with options from Kopi O ($1.60) to the best-selling Yuan Yang and Kopi Guyu ($2 for hot, $2.50 for cold). An inventive item on the June menu is the Kopi-Gato, a blend of banana pudding with kopi O.

And what's kopi without kaya toast? Their version is a little different — here, the Kaya Set ($8.50) comes with four slices of baguette, homemade kaya, two soft-boiled eggs and a hot drink. The kaya is homemade using home-grown pandan leaves. For something heartier, try the Curry Chicken with Baguette ($8.50) and Ahma Ang’s Fried Beehoon ($4.50), made from her grandmother’s recipes. Bakes such as Fudgy Mochi Brownie and Lemon Tart are available on rotation.

Where: 7 Watten Rise, Singapore 287290
Opening hours: Mon, Tues and Fri (7:30am to 5pm), and Sat (7am to 5pm). Closed on Wed, Thurs and Sun (Note: Closed from June 16 to 21, 2025)

Home cafes in Tampines

Baobei Coffee

Baobei Coffee isn't a cute name - not only does it refer to a term of endearment in Chinese, but it also sounds like “a full cup”. For founder Mr Simon, it sums up what he hopes to offer — warmth, connection, and a good brew shared with strangers. In fact, he also credits his adorable and friendly pet corgi Scottie for helping with fostering a sense of community.

Originally a passion project, the cafe now opens five days a week. Most folks pre-order their drinks via a Telegram bot Simon built himself, but you can also book a visit in groups of up to four. Fan favourites? Try the Cloud Hug (a latte, $4) or Bed of Roses (an iced rose latte, $5), both made with locally roasted beans. There are also sips like the Spice & Everything Nice (pumpkin spiced latte, $4.50) and Lil' Cocoa (drinking chocolate, $4.50).

Where: 645B Tampines Street 62; the full address available upon ordering
Openin hours: Mon and Tues (9am to 4pm), fri (10am to 5pm), Sat (9am to 5pm) and Sun (9am to noon) Closed on Wed and Thurs.
