This Honey-Themed Joo Chiat Cafe Has Honeycomb Matcha & Peanut Butter Lattes
The peanut butter honey latte is worth travelling for

The next time you're in the Joo Chiat or Katong area, you'll want to make a beeline for this quaint honey-themed cafe: The Rare Honey Company.
Located at Joo Chiat Place, just slightly off the more bustling main stretch, it's a sweet, quieter spot to enjoy a cuppa after your pilates session, or to while away your time if you've dropped off your kids at one of the enrichment centres nearby. Originally located at Tan Boon Liat Building, it reopened its doors at its current locale in August 2024.
The charming space, decorated with bee motifs and pastel bird-adorned wallpaper, evokes a vintage, apothecary-style aesthetic with its dark wood furnishings. It doubles as both a retail space for its honey products sourced from South Western Australian forests, so you'll see jars of honey lining the shelves. On the menu, there's a compact selection of drinks and bakes. The only drawback? Seats are limited, and suited for individuals (great for me-time!) or smaller groups.
Fun fact: the founder is Western Australian native Harry Grover, who teamed up with two young beekeepers running a small family-run business in the region to launch The Rare Honey Company. Grover is also behind speciality coffee joints Common Man Coffee Roasters (CMCR) and the now-defunct Forty Hands, so you can expect good coffee here.

On the menu, of course, are honey-infused beverages. Our top recommendation — the Peanut Butter Honey Latte ($8), a decadent concoction of espresso, honey-milk, and peanut butter. The cafe specifically uses Fix & Fogg peanut butter for a smooth, creamy, and nutty finish. 11/10. (Not gonna lie — I first discovered this at The Rare Company's pop-up at a shopping event, and had been dying to swing by the cafe.)
Other crowd-favourites include the Honey Oat Ice Latte ($9) and Honeycomb Matcha Latte ($10), with the latter adorned with a cube of honeycomb. The matcha latte is smooth and creamy, with a vibrant grassy taste, though it leans on the sweet side. Chewing on the honeycomb is fun too.
While we didn't get to try the bakes during our visit (sadly, they were all sold out), you can expect creations like Honey Lemon Cake ($8), Honey Banana Pudding ($7) and Honeycomb Lemon Tart ($9).

And when you're done refuelling, park yourself at the Honey Bar and try the various types of honey on offer. Bottled straight from the hives, the company uses and sells 100% pure and raw honey from Western Australia. These include high-potency honeys made from the nectar of native flowering Jarrah, Redgum, and Karri trees. Its cold filtered, bioactive honeys are independently verified and certified using the Total Activity or TA+ scale.
The Rare Honey Company is at 19 Joo Chiat Place 427748. Visit its website for more information.
