Earlier this week, some homes in Singapore reported their boiled tap water smelling like pandan. Following an investigation by national water agency PUB, it was found that this was caused by the presence of tetrahydrofuran (THF), an organic compound that is also commonly used as a solvent in industries. The issue was traced back to water imported from Malaysia, and PUB has said that they’ve flushed out the affected networks and pipes. Given that there were just trace amounts of the THF organic compound detected in the water supply, PUB also said that it has no adverse impact on health.

Not going to lie, pandan water sounds delicious… but just not in this situation where you don’t know what’s causing your boiled tap water to smell like it. If you’re craving for some infused water after reading about this, here are some yummy combinations to try. They’re really easy to make too – just toss your fruits, veges, or herbs in, let it sit for a couple of hours (or overnight in the fridge), and voila!
