9 Affordable Fitness Classes To Try Out During Phase 2 (Heightened Alert)

With new Covid-19 regulations prohibiting high-intensity workouts at indoor fitness classes, gyms and studios, here are other alternatives

With new Covid-19 regulations prohibiting high-intensity workouts at indoor fitness classes, gyms and studios, it’s back to home workouts for many of us. (Rice bag squats, anyone?)

But if you can’t give up those in-person classes with a coach, or simply just want a change of scenery you’re in luck — more studios have been modifying their curriculum for outdoor settings. 

Here are some fun classes below $20 per session that will keep you moving without breaking the bank.

Spin outdoors with Aurora Spin Studio

While Aurora Spin Studio is popular for their dark rooms and strobe lights, you won’t be able to enjoy these for a while due to the current restrictions.

However, this doesn’t mean that a spin session with them is out of the question as they will be holding their classes outdoors instead at their South Beach Quarter studio.

These classes are priced at $20 for a single lesson.

Bodyweight and dynamic exercises at Circuit Lab

Located conveniently in the CBD area, Circuit Lab’s 45-minute outdoor bootcamp is a great central option to consider.

The military training-style classes will be conducted at The Lawn @ Marina Bay and consist of dynamic warm ups, interval training, bodyweight moves and explosive exercises. By the sound of it, you definitely will work up plenty of sweat from attending just one class!

Classes will be conducted on weekends and each session costs $20.

Running and speed work drills with Elevate

Bring out the runner in you at Elevate’s Track Squad sessions every Wednesday.

Regardless of your level, whether you’re an athlete or a beginner, the weekly session held at the Bedok ActiveSG stadium is designed to up your running speed.

Employing interval based training, the Track Squad will work your coordination, balance, body position, strength, speed and agility. 10 training sessions cost $150, which works out to $15 per session. You could also opt for the $90 five-lesson package or pay $20 for a single lesson.

Rooftop yoga at The Rooftop Studio

While yoga is considered a low-intensity activity and indoor yoga lessons are still allowed (provided you keep your mask on), why not switch it up. Get in a workout while enjoying a stunning view at this yoga studio located in Kampong Bahru.

You’ll have to make your bookings early as there are only five slots up for grabs per session.

If it’s your first time at the studio, go for the $10 package which includes two trial classes. Other package options range from $98 for a five-class pack to $900 for a 100-class pack

Fitness, strength, dance and yoga at GFX

GFX, which is under True Fitness, offers a variety of fitness, strength, dance and yoga classes at just $10 per class.

Early bird? Start your day with some sunrise yoga. If you want to work up more of a sweat, go for Body Combat, a martial arts-inspired workout.

There are multiple classes a day held at TFX Millenia Walk, TFX Funan, True Fitness HarbourFront, ESR BizPark @ Chai Chee, Great World City, and Velocity@Novena Square.

Parkour at Superfly Monkey Dragons

Don’t be afraid to try your hand at this sport that’s sure to improve your balance and strength.

Superfly Monkey Dragons runs beginner-friendly classes at various locations around the island, including Clarke Quay, Dhoby Ghaut, Lavender, Kallang, Dakota, Bedok Maze, Clementi and Bishan.

They have a variety of packages ranging from $158 for five classes (valid for a month) to $1988 for 12 months of unlimited classes (this roughly works out to less than $3 per hour if you attend 6.5 hours of classes per week).

If you’re looking to get your heart pumping, try 1nfinite Academy’s 45-minute circuit-style HIIT classes.

Held at 60 Boat Quay, each class will focus on working on your mobility, endurance and strength.

The 1nfinite Outdoors package is priced at $120 for 6 classes. First-timers can also get the Trial Pack, which consists of a week of unlimited sessions, for $55.

Train with dumbbells and kettlebells at Level

If you love going to the gym to train with equipments, Level’s outdoor classes will be a good alternative for you.

Their 45-minute Outdoor Structure class is held at the courtyard outside their Telok Ayer studio and focuses on fundamental movements and proper technique for classic gym equipment such as dumbbells and kettlebells.

If you’re into HIIT or calisthenics, try their classes at Fort Canning and The Lawn @ Marina Bay.

Newcomers can purchase three classes for $45.

Yoga for beginners with Harmonic Space

Easties, this one’s for you. Relieve some stress and get in a refreshing stretch with Harmonic Space’s basic vinyasa flow class.
