If you watched Netflix‘s ‘Hometown Cha Cha Cha‘ and needed a little more Kim Seon-ho action, you may have popped over to ‘StartUp‘, the tech start up K-drama that Kim starred in as a supporting actor alongside Nam Joo Hyuk and Bae Suzy.
Mid-way through the season, the female lead Seo Dal-mi (played by Bae Suzy) found success and made a name for herself as the CEO of an award-winning and internationally-recognised tech startup.
So, what did the tech CEO Seo Dal-mi use for skincare and makeup? We did a little digging for the products she used (that you’ll find available in Singapore):
Netflix’s 2020 k-drama, StartUp follows two troubled young adults as they try to find their identities and footing in the tech startup landscape, and reconcile relationships with their families. The two young adults – female lead Seo Dal-mi (played by Bae Suzy) and male lead Nam Do-san (played by Nam Joo Hyuk) are mentored by a tech venture investor, Han Ji-pyeong (played by Kim Seon-ho).
Throughout the years of building their tech start up company, a love triangle develops between the three.
For many Hometown Cha Cha Cha fans, one of the key highlights of the show was second-in-lead actor Kim Seon-ho. In Oct 2021, right after his hit k-drama, Hometown Cha Cha Cha concluded, Kim’s real-life ex-girlfriend came forth to the media with accusations that Kim allegedly forced her into an abortion, and falsely promised her with marriage before ditching her. The actor and his agency addressed the issue with an apology, and Kim himself reportedly addressed the issue with his ex-girlfriend in question. On the very same day of the apology, Kim’s ex-girlfriend quickly retracted her initial accusations and deemed it as a miscommunication.
As Seo Dal-mi (played by Bae Suzy) grew to be more prominent in the tech start up scene, her financial woes went away. Her dressing and choice of clothes got a little sharper. She started driving a yellow Mercedes Benz CLA180, and her vanity table became choke full of Lancome skincare and makeup products – an unmissable sight in both episodes 12 and 15.
The most prominent item may have been the Lancome Teint Idole Ultra Wear Foundation SPF 15 ($71). Launched in 2017 with a full 40-shade range, this medium to high coverage liquid foundation is suitable for dry, combination, and oily skin types. The internet has great reviews for this liquid foundation – it gives you a radiant, satin matte finish that lasts throughout the day.
Formulated for dry and sensitive skin types, the Lancome Hydra Zen Anti-Stress Moisturising Cream-Gel ($98) focusses on intense rehydration for dull, stressed, and tired skin. It’s well-loved by beauty fans for its lightweight formula, refreshing application experience, and non-sticky finish. It’s also known to have worked well for acne-prone skin.
Perhaps one of Lancome’s most recognisable lipsticks is the Lancome L’Absolu Rouge Lipstick ($52). The L’Absolu Rouge carries all the characteristics you’ll expect from a classic red lip – satin finish, mid-weight shine, creamy texture, with a hydrating finish. That also means that this lipstick will give you that movie-like red lippie stain on a clear, crystal wine glass. And you’ll likely have to keep your L’Absolu Rouge in your handbag or purse for a bathroom touch-up. Yup, a classic red lip is an entire experience on its own.
If you’re eagle-eyed, you may spot a svelte black bottle tip jutting out in the background. That unmistakable rose marks the tip of the signature Lancome Grandiose Wide Angle Fan Effect Mascara ($49.95). A luxurious bottle aside, the Lancome Grandiose comes with a curved (or what is called “swan neck”) wand for more precise application. The formula has been tried and tested by many users who have attested to its heavy-duty waterproof claim. However, the formula tends to clump on the mascara wand itself over time, making application clumsy and clumpy. You may need to do some wand cleaning if you’re into a super waterproof mascara formula such as this.
One of Lancome’s most recognisable hero products, the Lancome Advanced Génifique Youth Activating Concentrate Serum ($230) has seen a wave of popularity in the past few years with celebrities and influencers featuring it on their social media channels. It’s a pretty expensive bottle of serum meant for anti-ageing care. Benefits are pretty comprehensive and all-rounded, spanning improvement for dryness, fine lines, wrinkles, dull, and uneven skin tone. So, if you’re in the headspace for a quality product to kick start your preventive anti-ageing skincare routine, you might want to gun for this one.
Ah, the unmissable giant pink Lancome bottle that you’ll find at most departmental stores. The Lancome Tonique Confort ($79) is one of those super value-for-money purchases. For a $79 bottle, you can easily use it for six months and beyond. If you’ve never tried this, you should know that it’s not the usual watery texture that you’ll find in a toner or lotion. The texture is thick and emulsion-like (which means you really won’t use as much as you’d expect yourself to). The formula is pretty moisturising as well, So, for hotter days and nights in Singapore, you may not even need another serum or moisturiser to follow.
