One might think that using a powder blush is the only way to give your cheeks a flush of colour, but recent makeup trends have proven otherwise. Cue the viral TikTok clips raving about Youthforia’s blush oil that can change its colour according to your skin’s pH level or Rare Beauty‘s liquid blush that sent beauty fiends into a frenzy over its ability to give cheeks a rosy glow with just a smidge of product.
The recent fad: social media users are touting lip tints as the latest makeup product you should be co-opting into your blusher routine. This trend went viral earlier this year on Chinese social media platform Douyin for its unique placement of blush – to date, the hashtag ‘Douyin blush’ has amassed over 11 million views on TikTok. Proponents of the trend recommend applying your lip tint in a V-shape on the high points of the face, which includes the outer corner of the eye, the tip of the nose and the chin (see the clip below for a tutorial). The intended effect is one that’s doll-like and almost glowing from within.
While some may argue that lipcare products should not veer away from their purpose, it makes sense for tints to serve a multi-purpose beyond enhancing puckers. Most lip tints have a water-based formula which dries down almost immediately – meaning they last longer and do not require regular reapplication. Since blusher tends to be one of the first few makeup products to be ruined by sweat and humidity, lip tints are great substitutes for prolonged wear – because they are largely water-based and the makeup pigments grip the skin better after the H20 has evaporated.
