Hollywood’s biggest event has arrived. At the 95th Academy Awards aka the Oscars, which took place at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles, California, anticipation was high as close contenders filled up the nominee lists across the various categories.
What’s notable is the historic number of Asian nominees, and award winners — Michelle Yeoh, 60, made history as the first Asian and Malaysian to win the Best Actress award for her performance in Everything Everywhere All at Once. Her co-star, Vietnamese-born American actor Ke Huy Quan, also won for Best Supporting Act for his role in the film. Other familiar Asian stars who graced the event included Chinese actress Fan Bingbing, as well as Hong Kong actor Donnie Yen and his wife Cissy Wang. Pakistani education activist Malala Yousafzai was also in attendance for her Oscars debut, together with her husband Asser Malik.
Of course, awards aside, all attention was also on the red carpet, which wasn’t short on dazzling looks of nominees and guests. Here’s a look at some of best fashion moments at the Oscars.
Michelle Yeoh, 60, didn’t just win the Best Actress award for her role in “Everything Everywhere All at Once” at the 95th Annual Academy Awards, but she also looked ethereal in her white Dior Couture gown accented with delicate feathers. She paired the romantic look with Moussaieff diamonds and a Richard Mille watch.
It’s probably safe to say that no one does maternity wear like Rihana, and she brought her A-game to the Oscars this year, too. The 35-year-old, who revealed her pregnancy recently, rocked up to the red carpet and flaunted her baby bump in an Alaia outfit comprising a leather bustier and maxi skirt layered over a matching sheer mesh turtleneck top.
Pop superstar Lady Gaga went for gothic glamour, donning an all-black sheer corsetted Versace gown that’s straight off the brand’s Fall ready-to-wear runway, paired with dramatic eye makeup and a crimson lip, as well as jewellery from Tiffany & Co.
Vietnamese-American actor and Best Supporting Actor winner Ke Huy Quan, who plays Evelyn’s (Michelle Yeoh) husband in Everything Everywhere All At Once, wore a timeless black tux from Giorgio Armain, with one special accessory — an Art Nouveau-style floral Fred Leighton brooch on his lapel.
Fan Bingbing made her return to the spotlight in a regal Tony Ward gown with oversized sleeves and an overskirt in a rich emerald green.
There’s no going wrong with Hollywood glamour — Cara Delevingne looked ravishing in a bold red Elie Saab Couture gown with a dramatic slit.
Donnie Yen turned up at the event as a presenter in a classic tux, and was accompanied by his wife, Cissy Wang, who looked elegant in a beige and yellow gown.
We love a vibrant red carpet look, and Angela Bassett stood out in a striking purple one-shoulder Moschino gown. She topped off the look with a stunning Bulgari diamond necklace and drop earrings.
The Don’t Worry Darling star, 27, stepped out in a billowy Valentino Couture look with statement off-shoulder sleeves pulled from the house’s Fall/Winter 2022 collection. Mixing romance with a bit of attitude, it featured a slit that showed off black booty shorts, together with edgy accessories and her hair up in a sleek updo.
The Everything Everywhere All At Once star walked the red carpet in a strapless pink gown with a voluminous skirt from Valentino’s Spring 2023 couture collection. She kept it romantic and elegant with her hair styled with effortless waves, and silver accessories.
Halle Berry came to slay in this skin-baring white halter gown by Tamara Ralph designed with a peekaboo cutout and a daring hip-high slit. Glittering rose gold rosettes accent the look and turn up the glamour.
Pakistani female education activist and Nobel Peace Prize laureate Malala Yousafzai made her Oscars debut in a glittery sequined hooded gown designed by Ralph Lauren. She was an executive producer on the short film Stranger at the Gate, which was nominated in the Best Documentary Short Film category.
