1. Waterway Point

At basement two of this mall is a hybrid amphitheatre and water-play area called The Cove. Here, children can play with water shooters that mimic rain.

There is a family and kids zone on level two where children can play to their heart’s content. Wonderland, an Alice In Wonderland- themed play area, for example, has play features in the shape of a giant bunny and caterpillar. It is open from 10.30am to 9.30pm daily.

The rooftop of this mall at the Singapore Sports Hub is home to a kids’ water playground.

Open from 8am to 10pm, it has a water-play area featuring four colourful slides of various heights and a 0.5m-deep kids’ pool, suitable for families with young children aged three to 12. There are lifeguards on duty. The play area can also be accessed from Gate 1 at the National Stadium, which is next to the mall.

3. Square 2

The temperature at this mall, directly accessible from Novena MRT station, is a crisp 22 deg C. This makes it among the colder malls here and a perfect oasis in the hot weather. There are also several water fountains outdoor.

According to its website, there are more than 200 speciality shops and food outlets.

On level two are fashion stores with labels by budding Singapore designers, designer brands and accessories, while level three houses Singapore’s first Korean- themed shopping enclave where you can get Korean cuisine, fashion, beauty products and services.

Relish the cooling sea breeze at this dining and retail destination in the luxury waterfront precinct.

There are many restaurants here, such as the new French restaurants Jean Dore and Bistro French Quays.

Quench your thirst with fresh fruit juices or chill over a cuppa at Joe & The Juice cafe. It offers juice classics such as Stress Down drink (from $6.90 a cup) comprising strawberry, apple and ginger that will cool you down.

Westgate Wonderland on level four is an 11,000 sq ft outdoor fantasy-themed playground billed as the largest thematic outdoor playground at a mall here.

For children aged two to 12, it immerses them in a garden with gigantic insects, musical flowers, a 10m-tall tree house and an enormous watering can that sprays water. There are dry and wet areas.

6. Changi Airport

The airport is a cool 23.5 deg C, so no worries about breaking out into a sweat here. Plus, it is always open.

Apart from watching planes land and take off, you can take a ride on a four-storey slide – billed as the world’s tallest airport slide – at Terminal 3. You can redeem one ride for every $10 spent in a single receipt at the airport.

Open from noon to 10.30pm daily, this slide will have you speeding down at 6m a second. Those who want to go on it have to be at least 1.3m tall.

While it might not have a waterplay area, it’s still a pretty good place to stay cool.
