Mookata, or mu kratha, is a combination of Singaporean’s two well-loved eating styles: barbecue and steamboat. Originating from Thailand, the cooking method uses a domed pot where meat is grilled on a lard-lubricated surface that allows the umami-rich juices to flow into and flavour the soup along the perimeter.
Unsurprisingly, mookata is a favourite here as the result is a delicious mix of smoky, grilled meats and flavourful hotpot. So the next time you can’t decide between Korean barbecue or Chinese hotpot, why not meld the two together and enjoy Thai mookata instead? Keep scrolling for 10 mookata restaurants in Singapore to tick off your list.
PS: Most, if not all of these restaurants deliver, so support them if you’re hankering for mookata in the comfort of your own home.
