This trendy Korean BBQ joint is great for indulging in delicious, high-quality meats, with friendly and attentive service to boot. Great for both large and small groups, waiters will help grill and portion the meats, which include the Pujim Shovel (pictured), which feeds four to five people and features premium A4 Wagyu ribeye, Prime Black Angus boneless short rib, Iberico Bellota pork collar and rib finger, as well as Duroc pork belly.

Price range: $60 to $70 per person.

Set against an industrial-chic backdrop, this Korean BBQ restaurant serves up a selection of premium meats such as US prime beef, Ohmi wagyu and short ribs, Argentinian Beef, seafood such as Atlantic salmon, king prawn, and Korean grilled squid, as well as stews like seafood bean paste, beef kimchi, pork belly, and even sardine kimchi.

This hip Korean joint is so named for its specialty 8 Colours Set, comprising eight flavours of marinated Mangalitza pork — a rare Hungarian breed of tender, ruby-red pork — for barbecuing. Choose from delicious conventional flavours like garlic or gochujang (Korean red pepper paste) to more unique ones like curry.

Spoilt for choice? Go for the one of the most popular sets: the Flower Pork, which consists of pork neck, jowl, and pork belly, as well as a stew of your choice.

Price Range: $30-40 per person

8 Korean BBQ is at #02-79/90 Clarke Quay The Central, 6 Eu Tong Sen Street, Singapore 059817, tel: 8692 1188.

Seorae Korean Charcoal BBQ
image

This popular Korean BBQ franchise, with more than 220 outlets in South Korea, specialises in Korean Galmaegisal (pictured), a premium cut of pork skirt that’s denser and more luxurious. In fact, it was traditionally was only served to the Royal Family in Korea. Talk about dining like royalty!

This pork skirt that is marinated in Korean spices is the star of the show here. However, the side dishes or ban-chan are more than enough to keep your taste buds going while waiting for your grilled pork.

Fried kimchi, steamed egg and cheese also surround the grill so that you can make your pork tastier. Yakult Soju and Coffee Soju are also on offer as well as the popular Korean dessert, bingsu.

Price Range: $40-60 per person.

Seorae Charcoal Korean BBQ has two outlets: #02-01 Plaza Singapura, 68 Orchard Road, Singapore 238839, tel: 9181 2709; and #B1-10 Jem, 50 Jurong Gateway Road, Singapore 608549, tel: 9199 8729.

Wang Dae Bak

This busy, almost hole-in-the-wall restaurant is bustling with a mix of both Koreans and locals during mealtimes — and that’s always a good sign.

Wang Dae Bak sticks to tradition with its charcoal fire grills. Perhaps this is the reason why it is considered one of the best Korean BBQ restaurants in Singapore. Its a la carte menu has quite a few gems, after the marinated meats of course. Popular cuts of meat include pork shoulder butt and prime rib; forget watching your waistline and get a serving of spicy pork skin as well.

Among the must-try dishes are the Kimchi pancake and the Kimchi Jjigae, an anchovy base stew with pork and tofu. Another must-order: the dense, crispy seafood pancake which is even bigger than your grill.

Price Range: $40-50 per person.

Wang Dae Bak has two outlets: #01-64 China Square Central, 22 Cross Street, Singapore 048423, tel: 6225 2646; and 98 Amoy Street, Singapore 069918, tel: 6226 0450.

Seoul Restaurant

Two things: 1) It’s a buffet! and 2) The cuts of meat you get here are more succulent and well-marbled than most others. They even use a special grade of charcoal, imported from Korea, accentuating the taste of your barbecued meat. Also included in the buffet are stews, dishes like Korean pancakes, Naengmyeon (buckwheat noodles) and more.

While slightly pricier ($69.90+ per pax for a dinner BBQ buffet), we’d say it’s worth every cent.

Seoul Restaurant is at #03-02 The Regent Hotel, 1 Cuscaden Road, Singapore 249715, tel: 6338 8548.

Don Dae Bak prides itself for offering a charcoal barbecue experience rather than the usual gas barbecue grills in most restaurants. This restaurant only has one location, so it gets easily full during the buffet hours. You get to man your own grill around a circular table, good for families or a small group of friends. Everything from the side dishes, the drinks and of course, the assortment of meats are all free flow.

Price Range: Mon – Thurs: $25.90++; Fri – Sun, Public Holidays (& Eve of): $27.90++.

For a hearty option, go for the pork backbone stew (gamjatang) and pair it with a bottle of soju. Its location which is at the Orchard Gateway area is also a big plus, but fair warning: Majority of the seats are outdoors, so do reserve in advance to secure a table indoors.

This well-known South Korean chain was started by Jong Won Paik, a celebrity chef from Seoul.

We reckon his claim to fame is the restaurant’s specialty Woo Samgyup, thinly sliced beef brisket laced with decadent streaks of fat that flavour the meat when it’s cooked on the grill.

Bornga has two outlets: #01-641/642 Suntec City East Wing, 3 Temasek Boulevard, Singapore 038983; and #02-123/124 Vivocity, 1 Harbourfront Walk, Singapore 098585.

Superstar K
image

At Tanjong Pagar Road, you’ll find the superstar of Korean BBQ, Superstar K. With its interior so gorgeously furnished into an industrial setting, it actually looks like a themed restaurant. It’s located about a minute’s walk from Kko Kko Nara (or two from 2D1N Soju Bang).

Superstar K boasts authenticity in terms of dining experience and food. It has an ala-carte menu only, so the queues are usually not as long as those that offer buffets. With its exhaust suction pipes that droop from the ceiling and the food offered on the menu, you’ll feel as though you were in Korea!

Here you can enjoy your BBQ that includes black pepper pork neck, seasoned chicken and bulgogi after the cook staff has cooked it to perfection. So if you are not in the mood to be your own cook, this is the place for you.
