Our embrace of carbs, especially in the form of artisanal loaves, cakes, and pastries, is real. Thankfully, our little island isn’t short on bakeries with the most drool-worthy creations, and there are still more places springing up, offering everything from scones to viennoiseries, tea cakes, and more.
The iconic Keong Saik bakery cafe has opened the doors to a new outlet at Chip Bee Gardens, along with new menu offerings.

And to tame that sweet tooth, there’s the Pecan Tart ($8.80) loaded with crunchy nuts and a maple syrup custard.

Savour the likes of an almond chocolate croissant, bacon and cheese quiche, sourdough bread, butter horns and fruit danishes. The artisanal bread’s crafted with French lactic butter and wheat imported from a French miller.

Last December, the hip Jalan Besar enclave welcomed La Levain, an artisanal bakery cafe that’s helmed by executive chef Wythe Ng, formerly of Keong Saik Bakery and Bakery Brera.

These run the gamut from classics to ones with global influences or given a local twist. Think Kouign Amann, Pain Au Chocolat, Burnt Cheese Croissant, Bo Bo Cha Cha Croissant, Hojicha Mochi Croissant ($6.80+), and his signature Cruffins (from $4.60+).
It has brunch options too (8.30am to 2pm) with delish plates of Avocado Tartine with Egg ($14+), Peanut Butter Tarine ($8+), and the Big Breakfast ($19.80+) loaded with eggs, sausage, mushrooms, pickled cucumbers, and sourdough bread.
