Always on the hunt for new dining spots? We bring you sound bites on where to eat, including new restaurant and eatery openings, the best places for your after-work tipple, and what’s new in the food scene.
To add to your foodie list: Comforting Sichuan-style fish soups, all-you-can-eat Southeast Asian fare from Rise Restaurant, a new Korean butchery and cafe concept, and more.
When the weather gets frightful, or when you’re down with a cold, fish soup is a go-to. And there’s a new 54-seater eatery at Wisma Atria’s Food Republic to hit up. Named Yu Zhong Bu Tong (a play on the Chinese phrase meaning ‘out of the ordinary’), the specialty is, well, fish, with the establishment serving up fresh live harvest from its farm Blue Ocean Harvest.
Its must-try fish soup ($9.80, with rice) uses only sea bass and comes in four versions: the ma la-infused Spicy Poached Fish Soup with tongue-tingling chilli oil, Sauerkraut Fish Soup with a distinctive tartness, Tomato Fish Soup as well as Collagen Fish Soup.
Apart from broths, you can also chow down on other fish and seafood sides too, like the Fish Skin Salad, Spicy Stir-fried Fish & Bones as well as Fresh Green Mussels with Spicy Sauce (all $7.80).
Yu Zhong Bu Dong is at Food Republic, #04-02 Wisma Atria, 435 Orchard Rd, Singapore 238877.
Looking to whip up a Korean-style barbeque or feast at home? Hit up The Butcher’s Dining, which has cuts of meat specifically carved by head chef and butcher Heba Kim to be suited for various types of Korean cuisine. And to amp up your meal, there’s also a range of condiments, sauces and drinks from top South Korean food brand Myeongin Myeongchon, available outside of the country for the first time.
Or if you’re not one to slave in the kitchen, it also has ready meal kits on a daily rotation, which include braised pork kimchi jjim, gal-bi-jjim, shabu shabu and more.
Dining-in is available too, with modern Korean dishes on the menu. Think a Spicy Pulled Pork Kimbap ($11.90), the TBD Cheese Burger ($18.90), and an Old School Duroc Pork Cutlet ($25.80) with a Korean-style cutlet drizzled in house-sauce.

Inspired by its coastal location, Bedrock Origin at Oasia Resort Sentosa serves up an enticing medley of seafood, dry-aged meats, and its signature steaks.
It’s recently launched the first of its all-new Beef & Reef line-up, a quarterly showcase of seafood and premium meats prepared through curing, dry-aging, and grilling over an applewood fire. The first of the series sees a six-course tasting menu that starts with light bites of Kingfish Tartare, Salmon Pastrami Sandwich, and King Crab Roll — for a fancier experience, you can go for the same menu with the addition of Kaluga/Schrenckii crossbreed caviar.
Then make your way through a silky Truffle Corn Custard topped with brown butter red prawns, and Grilled Octopus Tentacles served with jamon iberico and fried cauliflower rice. The Aged Turbot has been dry-aged in-house for three days for a firmer texture and more intense flavours, while beef lovers will appreciate the Kyoto Tamba A5 Wagyu (100g)’s rich marbled beef that’s grilled over applewood fire and finished with a red wine veal jus reduction.
And to round it all off, a flourless chocolate cake crafted with 85 per cent dark chocolate and brandy-infused cherries.
Available from now till March 31, 2022, Sun to Thurs for dine-in only (one-day advanced reservation required). The 6-Course Dinner Tasting Menu is at $188++ per person and $288++ per person with the addition of caviar. Wine pairing is available at $88++ per person.
