As we prepare to usher in the year of the Tiger, there is no better way to manifest some good fortune than to lo hei (tossing up of good fortune) with loved ones. A key fixture in every reunion dinner, it’s understandable to want to spice things up a bit with gorgeous Yusheng platters that promise more than supermarket-bought ones.
For the upcoming Chinese New Year, we have collated a list of seven at all price points. From DIY Yushengs to ones with black caviar and Canadian lobsters, these options will look delightful on your dining table come late January.
Regent Singapore’s Prosperity Toss comes in eight different options, but the vegetarian one is a stunner. Named Purple Cauliflower with Lily Bulbs, the cauliflower adds a pop of colour and the sauce is not too sweet – just nice. Though it does not come with fish, it is still a perfectly-festive dish for reunion dinners with friends or family (or even yourself!) who don’t consume meat.
They also have another unique option: their Jellyfish and Roselle Yusheng, with the jellyfish lending a unique texture and flavour to the traditional dish.
Both Yushengs mentioned are priced at $98++. Located at Regent Singapore, 1 Cuscaden Road, Singapore 249715. Book your meal here.
Full of shredded fresh vegetables and drizzled with a deliciously tangy plum sauce, Esseplore’s Yusheng is 100 per cent natural and preservative-free. The dish comes with smoked salmon slices but can be upgraded to toro slices with gold flakes at $40 per 100 gram.
The Yusheng also comes in individual portions if you order their six-course CNY Gourmand ($73 per box). This means that you can have a reunion dinner over video call and eat the same food despite the distance!
Priced at $68 per medium portion (six pax) and $88 per large portion (10 pax). Only available for deliveries. Order yours here.
The Tanuki Raw Yusheng features 10 slices of sashimi-grade and air-flown Norwegian salmon. With generous servings of carrots, purple cabbage, and cucumber, a portion of ginger brings a unique flavour to the dish. Top it all off with the must-haves plum sauce, pickles and preserves, and peanut oil.
If you would like to add on more family-favourite ingredients, you can order more crackers ($2) and raw salmon slices (six for $10) to satisfy everyone’s cravings.
If you opt for takeaways or pick ups, the salmon will be filleted on the day itself.
Priced at $38.99++ per serving (three to four pax). Available for pick-up and dine-in at their Orchard Central and Funan outlets. Pre-order here.
