10 Tips to Throwing A Dinner Party on A Budget
1. Plan Well

Deciding on a theme or planning out the food budget properly ensures that you don’t overspend on uncessary things when you’re shopping.

2. Take Your Invites Digitally

Instead of spending your budget on customising or making cute cards, why not go the paperless route? Sites like Paperless Post Punchbowl and even Google send out event invites and some are even customisable.

3. It's Okay To Use Mismatched Tableware

Resist your inner perfectionist and opt to use what you have at home instead of buying matched disposable tableware. Not only is it better for the environment, it’s great for your budget.

4. Plan Your Dinner Menu Properly

When you plan your dinner menu properly, it’s easy to see which ingredients cost more than others. A tip? Try to opt for cheaper meats and use ingredients that are currently in season.

5. Serve Up A Signature Drink Featuring Alcohol
image

Instead of opening up a bar where guests can serve themselves their own wine and alcoholic beverages, why not stick to one type of beverage (e.g. vodka or rum) and make a signature drink instead. That way, you’re aware of how much alcohol you’re using.

6. Make It A BYOB Party

Grateful guests will be more than willing to bring their favourite alcohol or beer for all to share.

7. Pick Your Favourite Carb For A Main Dish

Carbs like pasta, rice or noodles are so filling and cheap to serve, you’ll have very satisfied guests at the end of your dinner party.

8. Turn It Into A Potluck
image

Just like the BYOB concept, make it fun by asking guests to contribute either dessert (ice cream is always good) or a drink to the party. Most guests would be more than willing to do so anyway.

9. Keep Guests Entertained With Interactive Games

Need some entertainment? Get your friend with an xbox or PlayStation to come and hook your TV up. It’ll be fun for everyoe involved!

10. Skip The Meat

It’s a known fact that getting a bunch of vegetables versus serving up a roast is a lot cheaper on your wallet. So, why not turn your menu in a vegeterian one? That doesn’t mean all you serve up is a salad though. Search for vegeterian dishes that go beyond just leafy greens and save money too.
