Every room in your home has one and it’s probably the most overlooked when it comes to design, apart from the ceiling, that is. We’re talking about the door, which is typically the swinging sort that separates rooms and gives you privacy. But with homes becoming smaller, swing doors can become more of a hindrance than a help. That’s why more homeowners are swapping traditional doors for something more space-saving (and chic as well!) – sliding doors.
These shouldn’t just be relegated to the kitchen or balcony; sliding doors are classy and can be designed to suit your taste and preference. Click through the gallery below to see how local homeowners have done it and get inspired:

Trick the eye into thinking that the narrow doorway at home is larger than it seems, by designing sliding doors that are taller and wider than the actual space.
Aside from the illusion it creates, it is a space-saving strategy as floor space can be maximised without having to cater for additional room that regular swing doors would require.
When selecting a suitable sliding door, consider its size and weight, says Lane Zhang, sales and marketing manager of Country Concept. “Unlike conventional doors, which rely on hinges, sliding doors have a track mechanism that hold most – if not all – of the weight of the door. For example, solid wood doors require a more durable mechanism to withstand their load.”
Check that you have enough clearance in front of the wall and that the surface is flat, so that the doors can track easily and smoothly, Lane advises.

For a more raw and lived-in look, pick a door with texture and heavy metal accents.
