Using glass panels to separate the living room from the bedroom is a smart alternative to cement walls and doors as it still maintains a flow instead of cordoning off sections in your already smaller than average home. Go bold with dark colours on one side to segregate the space without making it feel small.
Well-thought out built-in cupboards save lots of space too. Consider this instead of buying a large and bulky wardrobe in your bedroom.
Location: One North
Renovation Cost: $30,000
Again, glass instead of cement. This interior idea is getting more and more popular. With a minimalist and modern interior using raw materials, plants play the perfect décor, creating an understated appeal.
Edit your decor, as too much can overwhelm a small space. Anchor the dining area with a single, large piece of wall art that acts as a conversation piece too.
Pistachio mint kitchen cabinets add an ultra-modern vibe!
Location: Circuit Road
Renovation Cost: $50,000
Tiny, but bursting with grandiose in its modern approach to interior design. Even with a small budget, you can make your tiny abode luxe and sophisticated with all the right colours, textures and materials.
Hints of gold and sheen create an “expensive” look while patterned wallpapers and a chandelier instantly upgrade your home.
Location: Parc Rosewood
Renovation Cost: $28,000
With a cool industrial look, this homeowner incorporated the use of raw materials like exposed bricks and upscaled furniture – right on trend. The unifying colour palette of warm tones gives the small condo a cosy and relaxed ambience.
A long dining table and a bench can visually lengthen the space and make it look bigger.
A must-have for compact homes: hidden storage. A customised platform bed is a great way to incorporate more storage space in a seamless way and keep clutter out of sight.
Location: Lengkong Court
Renovation Cost: $25,000
Incorporate mirrors to have that larger-than-life effect and use plenty of white in your walls and flooring.
A definite eye-catcher in this home is its cute, semi-booth style dining area – a creative way of being space efficient! We also love the use of wood in this home – it’s got that Scandinavian modern effect that are perfect for opening up tiny homes.
If you’re blessed with lots of windows, keep them drawn to let in lots of natural light, as this can make your home look bigger, brighter and airier.
Location: Telok Kurau
Another Scandinavian home that’s on point when it comes to making the best use of tiny spaces. Keep it simple with just the bare necessities but add a little quirk with a geometric carpet and fun art.
The white and light woody look throughout this two-room flat gives a clean and pristine look, which is ideal so while tiny, it’s not gloomy.
Select practical yet stylish furnishings that add flair to your space, such as a ladder rack and a corkboard wall.
A dark feature wall can be very cosy too, although it may make a room feel smaller. The trick is to balance with lots of white-coloured furnishings and light fixtures.
Location: Toa Payoh North
Renovation Cost: $80,000
One thing about small homes is the many corners and nooks that are hard to incorporate in the entire design concept. Pre-planning is key in ensuring space is smartly utilised.
For example, the bedroom here – placing the bed in a corner allows for a bigger wardrobe. (Don’t we all need one?)
Location: Punggol Waterway Terraces
Renovation Cost: $27,800
Mirrors, mirrors – exceptionally handy when your space is tiny! Floor-to-ceiling mirrors are great optical illusions that make a room appear larger than it really is.
Folding glass doors that separate rooms allow you to create privacy if you need it when closed or further expands the space when opened wide.
It may not be evident in this picture, but frosted windows in the bedroom play in to the optical illusion.
Location: Bedok Reservoir Crescent
Renovation Cost: $20,000

10 Easy, Fresh Ways To Update Your Decor Like These Singapore Homes
Home to a family of three, the design of this 936sqf three-room HDB home at Sky Terrace @ Dawson was inspired by the homeowners’ travels and years of studying in Australia. They also needed lots of storage and wanted to keep cables of appliances hidden especially for the safety of their young son.
The wall between the kitchen and living room was hacked, and replaced with an island counter to extend the use of kitchen space, while maintaining visual connectivity with other parts of the home. Built-in cabinets under the counter can also be used for extra storage.
The counter was designed such that there is standing space on three sides to encourage interaction when family members are preparing meals. This area is also a perfect spot for dinner parties as food is served over the counter.
This multi-functional area can be used as an extra space for food preparation as well as a casual dining area.

The design team from Artistroom demolished the walls of the second bedroom to make way for an open-concept study. A spacious study, the main requirement of the homeowner, was created by sacrificing one of the bedrooms and making the master bedroom smaller.
To emphasize the study area without adding any barricades to limit the space, use different floor tiles to demarcate the area.
Inspired by the industrial-loft design concept often seen in New York apartments, the overall monochromatic palette in this home sets the backdrop for many unusual design features within the interiors that reflect the homeowners’ interest and hobbies.
The open-concept layout and the continuity of grey tones throughout the living room helps to create the illusion of a bigger and wider space.
A seemingly “floating” dining table that extends from the kitchen island, provide sufficient space for the homeowners to work and dine at.
