2023 has just started and the preparations for Chinese New Year are well underway. To celebrate the year of the rabbit, there are lots of hop-portunities for the family to do in anticipation of the Lunar New Year. From a lantern-making workshop in Chinatown to an adorable installation at the Sun Yat Sen Nanyang Memorial Hall. Check them out below.
Presented by artist Shubigi Rao and curated by Ute Meta Bauer, Pulp III is the midpoint of Rao’s ongoing decade-long project Pulp which explores the history of book destruction and its impact on the futures of knowledge.
The exhibition provides visitors the opportunity to engage with Rao’s work through daily screenings of her film, Talking Leaves, and a presentation of her book, Pulp III: An Intimate Inventory of the Banished Book, Volume III of V (Pulp Vol. III). Perhaps a little abstract for the younger ones in the family, the installation can be better understood as the importance of preserving stories in order to benefit future generations.
The exhibit is presented as part of Singapore Art Week 2023.

Light to Night 2023 embraces the theme of 'Here and Now' and explores what it really means to be in the present. Inspired by the process of responding to one’s time and environment through art, the festival invites visitors to reflect on contemporary topics through newly commissioned works by local and international artists in the Civic District. Perfect for all ages, the festival presents a series of multidisciplinary programmes that encourages spontaneous encounters with art as well as evoke discussions on the world we live in.

Textures, the annual SingLit literary festival is back with a bang and is bringing local literary arts to audiences at all parts of Singapore. On 8 January 2023, local author Daryl Kho will be at the Woodlands Regional Library to take audiences behind the making of Mist Bound: its world and its creations. As a best-selling SingLit author, Darly Koh’s fantasy novel hopes to increase appreciation for the elderly and raise dementia awareness, inspired by his own experiences. Recommended for upper primary school students.

Get serious about partying at ‘A Series Of Serious Parties’
Presented as part of Singapore Art Week and in collaboration with PLAY! A Series of Serious Parties aims to connect the local community with art in Singapore and spur on a deeper appreciation of shared spaces and the childhood games that we used to play. It hopes to encourage innovation in young minds and to re-look and reinvent childhood games, and allow creativity to be explored in a lighthearted setting.

Celebrate the year of the rabbit at the Sun Yat Sen Nanyang Memorial Hall
Pop over to the Sun Yat Sen Nanyang Memorial Hall to celebrate the year of the rabbit with the Wan Qing Festival of Spring 2023. Expect kid-friendly activities such as lion dance and festive drumming workshops, heritage trails, storytelling and craft activities for the little ones. Snap away at the lawn installation with giant installations and cuddly rabbits. Titled Bunny-ful Blessings’, the exhibit is a collaboration between the Memorial Hall and Hong Kong illustrator, Chan Siu Kau. It features two of the artist’s signature Bit Bit Forest character, Bit Bit and represents the memorial hall’s wish for a year of good luck for Singapore.

After a two-year hiatus, the anticipated celebrations at Chinatown are back with a bang.
Families can expect the usual array of zodiac-themed light installations and the crowd favourite food fair, filled with all kinds of new year goodies and treats. For families looking to involve the little ones, festive-themed weekend workshops such as an Hongbao lantern-making session will be part of the line-up.
