7 Family-Friendly Activities To Do From 8-14 August
To welcome Singapore's 57th birthday, take part in a silent disco and a scavenger hunt, or enjoy an impressive National Day Light Up
By Ynez Lim -
Bask in the excitement of the National Day fanfare as we welcome our usual celebratory parade after a two-year hiatus. Whether you’re going to be celebrating with the family at the National Day Parade itself or just immersing the little ones in various activities, there are lots to do this coming week!
Groove to a silent disco at Forward Future - National Day 2022 Singapore Discovery Centre
The Singapore Discovery Centre is jam-packed with a slew of innovative activities to celebrate the nation’s birthday. And that includes an exhilarating game of B.L.L.B Laser Tag Tournament, where you get to form teams and complete a variety of missions. If laser tag is not really your thing, have a blast at the carnival games or groove to the roof at a silent disco with the family. There will also be booths featuring beloved local cuisines at the SDC because there is nothing Singaporeans love more than to celebrate with food.
Available on August 6, 7 and 9 from 11am to 8pm. Admission charges for individual activities apply.
Be a detective for a day and crack clues along three different walking trails to unlock Singapore’s stories and find the 5+7 heritage treasures.
As a family of two or more, you’ll be given clues to locate the stations and complete the challenges. Bring home with you a heritage memento to remember the day. Fringe activities will also be available around the sports hub with fun and interactive things to do for the family.
Multiple sessions available, from 10am-4pm. Register here.
To pull off a successful time at the National Day Light Up, make it a leisure after-dinner stroll. From August 1 to 27, the National Museum of Singapore, Cathedral of the Good Shepherd, Central Fire Station, The Cathay, National Design Centre and Stamford Arts Centre will have special facades projected on its structures to celebrate the nation’s 57th.
These buildings were chosen for its cultural significance and plays a historical role in Singapore’s journey.
Every night from August 1 - 27, 7:30pm to midnight.
An unconventional take to marking the nation’s birthday, but the Singapore Sports Hub clearly wants families to commemorate the day with a splash. Families in groups of 3 to 5 have to complete 57 laps of 25-metre swim as a family and complete a basic diving experience at the OCBC Aquatic Centre.
At the Singapore Sports Hub, August 10, from 10am to 12pm. Registration fees: Family of three to five persons: $20, group of 2 adults or 1 adult + 1 child: $10. Register here.
Celebrate National Day with the National Museum of Singapore
An exciting line-up of activities await the family on 9 August. The National Museum of Singapore is hosting a series of family-friendly activities based on Singapore’s icons and families will have the opportunity to participate in a national day scavenger hunt, drop-in workshops or even a multicultural music ensemble.
In the evening, there will be an outdoor live telecast of the National Day Parade while a special facade projection in celebration of the nation’s birthday will be held at the Museum’s front lawn.
Admission to all galleries is free for all on August 9. Click here for event lineups and timings.
If you’ve never been to the Skypark, this is the perfect opportunity for you to. As part of its national day festivities, Marina Bay Sands is offering a limited tour to explore the various attractions at MBS and learn about its design and sustainability features.
Known to most as a shopping haven, the panoramic vistas of Marina Bay was a project that took decades to realise. As part of Singapore’s world-class cityscape, we may have forgotten some of the history that used to lay beneath. The guided tour would be led by the ArtScience Museum’s Education Specialist so put on your walking shoes!
August 8, 11am-12:30pm. SkyPark Box Office, Basement 1, Hotel Tower 3. $29 per pax, tickets include same-day SkyPark admissions.
Beat the heat and take the little ones to the Cloud Forest to view Singapore’s national flower, the Vanda Miss Joaquim. Opening ahead of Singapore’s 57th birthday, the orchid display at Cloud Forest’s Orchid haven is an ode to the many historical milestones the flower has played in our nation’s journey.
From August 4 to September 4, the orchid haven exhibit will be available at the Cloud Forest, Gardens by the Bay. Check out the Cloud Forest's admission charges.
