The first few days of the Lunar New Year may have come and gone, but there are still plenty of festive events going on downtown. From engaging with Pinkfong's Baby Shark in an immersive play space and wizarding experiences to the wildly popular dragon drone show by Marina Bay Sands, make a beeline for these family-friendly events in Singapore this February 2024. 

The Legend of the Dragon Gate (updated dates and time)

If you haven't managed to catch the popular dragon drone show at the Marina Bay Waterfront, there is still time to do so! Put together by Marina Bay Sands, the 10-minute Lunar New Year extravaganza boasts 1,500 drones coming together in a magnificent dragon formation in the night sky. You will want to grab a good spot and get your camera ready. The remaining shows will be held on Feb 15, 16 and 18 at 9pm - in the event of bad weather, the show will be pushed back to 10pm. Sleeping Beauty 2024 Presented by Singapore Ballet

Got a kid who loves dance and classic fairy tales? Then the Sleeping Beauty ballet performance is one to catch. Cursed by the wicked fairy Carabosse, Princess Aurora falls into a deep sleep after pricking her finger on her 16th birthday. She lies in deep slumber for a hundred years until Prince Florimund embarks on a mission to break the spell. The performance is set to the music Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, played live by the Metropolitan Festival Orchestra. Sleeping Beauty runs from Feb 29 to Mar 3, and admits audiences aged four and above. Harry Potter: A Forbidden Forest Experience

If you or your kids are dedicated Potterheads, then make your way down to Sentosa’s Coastal Trail for Harry Potter: A Forbidden Forest Experience, which is finally landing on our shores. Experience a nighttime woodland trail where you’ll rub shoulders with wizards, witches, and muggles in some iconic scenes from the film series. Dress up and strike your best pose while casting a Patronus to light up the woods. Harry Potter: A Forbidden Forest Experience runs from Feb 3 nightly from 7.45pm to 11pm. Battle For Singapore

History buffs will know that this year marks the 82nd anniversary of the Fall of Singapore. To recap the country's experiences during World War II, the National Heritage Board (NHB) and Museum Roundtable (MR) have put together guided tours, talks, exhibitions, film screenings, and specially curated visits to historical sites that are not usually accessible to the public. If you've always wanted your children to have a deeper appreciation for Singapore history, this is one series of events to look out for. Key programmes include Cycling Buona Vista tours led by historian Dr John Kwok and heritage researcher and writer Mr Lee Kok Leong down the Buona Vista defence line, and tours to Cashin House at Lim Chu Kang Nature Park. Battle for Singapore takes place from Feb 17 to Mar 3 at various locations around Singapore. Just when you thought you couldn’t find more food spots in Singapore, Cosford Container Park is opening at 30 Cosford Road near Changi Airport. Once it opens in February, it’ll be Singapore’s largest outdoor food and beverage container park with gourmet offerings from vendors like Hello Butter Chicken, Boon Tat Street Seafood, and Cluny & LUK’ERS. 

There’s also an outdoor performance stage with a large digital screen and indoor and outdoor seating with views of Changi Airport's landing strip. Lunar New Year at the Singapore Sports Hub

Celebrate the Year of the Dragon at the Singapore Sports Hub. Those looking for picturesque spots to take Lunar New Year OOTDs for the fam won’t be disappointed - as there are plenty of colourful backdrops across Water Sports Centre, OCBC Arena, and Stadium Riverside Walk. On Feb 24, you can grab your family and head over to a festive carnival at the Arena Park, which will have Lion and Dragon dances, handicraft, and game booths from 8am to 11am.

Fulfil your need for speed at HyperDrive at Palawan Beach, which has just launched Game of Karts, its gamified karting experience. Get the whole family together and race each other to collect "weapons" to sabotage competitors, or "boosts" to turbo-charge yourself to the finish line. The race is open to kids above nine years old and taller than140cm. Otherwise, they can watch safely from the HyperDrive Cafe. Tickets start from $45/session for Off-Peak periods and $55/session for general passes, with each round lasting eight minutes. 

The World of Pinkfong Baby Shark’s Playhouse

The super young ones will love diving into Pinkfong & Baby Shark's Playhouse. The immersive play space boasts interactive play zones, bouncing inflatables, bowling alleys, golf-putting courses, and more. It also features Space Adventure, where the kiddos can build sandcastles and show off their groovy dance moves. Universal Studios Singapore Lunar New Year

Who says Lunar New Year celebrations have to be traditional? At Universal Studios Singapore, celebrate with favourite characters from popular DreamWorks Animation films like Kung Fu Panda 4. Let your kids have their adrenaline fix at the rides before checking out all-new live shows featuring DreamWorks Animation’s Po and Master Tigress from Kung Fu Panda, a magical lantern display, meet-and-greets with beloved characters, and enjoy a vibrant dragon dance.

Those who enjoy looking at planes and other aircrafts will be thrilled to know that "Weekend@Airshow" at Singapore Airshow 2024 is returning on February 24 and 25. The Changi Exhibition Centre at Aviation Park Road, right next to the new Changi Air Base, will transform into an aviation hub with aerobatic displays, aircraft exhibits, and family-friendly activities. If your children are aspiring Picassos, spend a weekend at the newly-revamped Keppel Centre for Art Education at National Gallery Singapore. It recently reopened in December following a four-month renovation, and now includes seven learning zones with hands-on activities such as creating 3D sculptures and interacting with immersive multimedia. Entry is free, so it’s time to plan a playdate with your child. Visitors are highly encouraged to pre-book a 1.5-hour slot before heading down.

Out of all the Lunar New Year festivities at Resorts World Singapore, the breathtaking Starlit Dragon Spectacular is one you shouldn’t miss. The highlight: an 88-meter LED dragon that takes the stage, surrounded by a starry night sky. The free show kicks off with five drummers symbolising the five elements of earth, wood, metal, fire, and water, followed by a mesmerising narrative by a soloist and graceful dancers. Catch this magical event at the Lake of Dreams, Forum Level One, from Feb 10 to 13 at 7.30pm and 8.30pm. Plus, keep an eye out for special appearances by the God of Fortune.

River Hongbao

Experience the magic of River Hongbao at Gardens by the Bay with mascots Xiaohe and Dragon "Wei Long". Get the whole family and wander through a festive wonderland adorned with over 20 enchanting lantern sets, including the largest-ever suspended dragon display swirling around the iconic Supertrees. You can also expect captivating stage performances featuring diverse cultural troupes, getai singers, and local artistes.

Once you’re done taking photos for the ‘gram, try out the amusement rides (who doesn't love bumper cars?), which the kids will love. So if you need a change of scenery this CNY, head to Gardens by the Bay for an immersive experience.

Chingay is back from Feb 23 to 24 at the F1 Pit Building.
