7 Kid-Friendly Activities To Do Outdoors In Singapore

Get your kids off their screens and out of the house for some family bonding outdoors

Singapore may be a concrete jungle, but who says you can’t find kid-friendly things to do in nature? Studies have shown that being outdoors helps to relax the mind and body, which creates a conducive environment for learning and bonding. Even a 10-minute walk can do wonders, especially if you and your kids have been stressed out at work and school lately.

But beyond walks, there's so much more you can do to instill a love of the outdoors in your kids. From cycling trails with “dinosaurs” to a family-focused beach club and even a hidden trail, here's our list of things to do in Singapore to get the kids out of the house.

1. Hay Dairies Goat Farm

There's so much the kids can learn from their relationship with animals. At Hay Dairies Goat Farm, the little ones can get up close and personal with the goats. Entry to the goat farm is free for the whole family, and no booking is required.

Come in the morning to catch the milking session between 9am-10.30am and have a taste of fresh goat milk, which you can purchase also from the farm at $2.70 per 200ml. There are also educational farm tours from $16.20 per child.

2. Lazarus Island

You don’t have to hop on a plane to escape the city bustle and get to a peaceful island! Lazarus Island is just a 20-minute ferry ride from Marina South Pier via St. John’s Island. Tickets cost $18 for adults and $15 for children aged 2 to 12 years old.

Once you’re there, walk to one of the beaches for a swim or head to the bike rental kiosk to get a two-wheeler. Bike and scooter rentals cost $25 for 2 hours. But if you just prefer chilling, beach mats, tents, and even kites are also available for rent. Not to mention, Tiny Away Escape @ Lazarus has recently just opened, adding a potential new staycay spot to your weekend plans.

Before embarking on this journey, don’t forget to pack snacks, sunscreen, a hat, sunglasses, an umbrella, and plenty of water. Also, be careful of monkeys and don’t leave your belongings unattended.

3. Admiralty Park

Indoor playgrounds are fun and all, but those that are located outside in nature are in a different league altogether thanks to the surrounding greenery. Admiralty Park Playground is a haven for the kids with multiple slides, burrows, and bridges. In fact, it is probably Singapore’s biggest outdoor playground with three different zones.

Once they’re done sliding and running around, take a walk to the nearby mangrove boardwalk and try to spot over 100 species of flora and fauna. Play “I spy with my little eye” and see if you can spot wildlife such as dragonflies, squirrels, and various species of birds.

4. Changi Jurassic Mile

Rawr! Dino-obsessed kiddos are going to have a ball of a time at Changi Jurassic Mile, a 1km jogging and cycling path with more than 20 prehistoric creatures. It’s open 24/7, so you can choose to have a day or night adventure. After sunset, the dinosaurs will be illuminated with an LED glow that's just as Instagrammable.

Getting there is easy. From Changi Airport Terminal 4, head to Car Park 4A and follow the signs to Jurassic Mile. Bring your own bike, or rent one from the Hub & Spoke pit stop.

Then, get your phones or cameras ready for photo ops including a massive Tyrannosaurus Rex and dinosaur eggs. This is the perfect chance to get the kids educated on different dino species — there are over nine here, including a mix of herbivores and carnivores.

Follow the path to East Coast Park to take in some sun, wind, and sea after that. Or if you're feeling famished after all that riding, pop by East Coast Lagoon Food Village for a post-cycling meal.

5. Splash Tribe

If it's too hot for walking or cycling, there's always the water park to fall back on. The new Splash Tribe in Sentosa has a sandcastle-themed play zone with slides and an infinity pool that overlooks the sandy beach.

You’ll get to relax while the kids whoosh down the different slides, including a three-lane slide and twisting tube. If you’re taking a dip with them in the infinity pool, it's good to note that the depth ranges from around 0.5m to 1.2m, so look out for the little ones who are just learning to swim.

Hungry after all that splashing? Indulge in their extensive food and beverage menu — we like the chicken sliders ($21) paired with a Tropical Sunrise ($12) mocktail.

6. Sentosa Imbiah Trail

Besides the beach and fun activities like HydroDash, did you also know that there’s a hidden nature trail in Sentosa? The Imbiah Trail is an easy hiking trek that connects Siloso Point to Mount Imbian and Imbiah Lookout.

There are various entry points to the trail, but we recommend starting at the Sentosa Nature Discovery Gallery. It’s an educational centre where the kids can pick up a fun fact or two to prepare themselves for the hike.

Pause at the different stops along the trail for an immersive educational experience for the young ones - think a Moss Corner and several waterfalls. If you need shelter from the sun, there are cute shaded seating areas shaped like mushrooms throughout Imbiah Trail. End your walk with a panoramic view of Sentosa’s lush greenery and wildlife from the 10m-tall bird-watching tower at the summit of Mount Imbiah.

7. Jacob Ballas Children's Garden

Located just a 10-minute walk away from Botanic Gardens MRT Station, it has a farm, an orchard, and a forest with its own stream and ponds. Curious children can explore the suspension bridge, nature play areas, and even tree houses.
