It's the June holidays and many local celebrities and personalities have jetted away on vacation trips with their families, including Christopher Lee and Fann Wong to the Maldives, singer Tay Kewei at Hua Hin, and mompreneur Yvon Bock to New Zealand.
Amidst all the happy holiday posts on social media, familiar faces like radio DJ Jillian Lim and influencer Mongchin Yeoh shared their everyday parenting challenges. These are timely reminders that life is often not as perfect as it may seem online and struggling is normal. Scroll down for more interesting recounts of our celebrities' adventures!
Local actor and singer, Christopher Lee, took to Instagram to share a video of his wife, actress Fann Wong, and their son Zed on a holiday in the Maldives. Christopher not only captured his family's happy smiles as they enjoyed the view, but also captured his son's first time on a seaplane.
Lifestyle influencer Melissa Koh threw her first son Noah a party for his fourth birthday, which included a bouncy sandcastle (aptly named Casa de Noah) dressed with balloons as well as a ball pit for Noah and his friends to have a bouncing good time.
Trains appeared to be the theme of the day, with a train-themed birthday cake from Creme Maison Bakery, and train-themed decor. Behind the styling was event planner Hello! Joi.
Jamie Yeo, who's now based in the UK, attended her son Luke's school sports day event, which is, according to her a big day where many parents take the morning off work to cheer on their kids, take part in parent races and then have a picnic.
She also gave an update on how her son has adjusted to life and his school in the UK (and also got up to a little mischief).
We can always count on Jill to keep it real when it comes to motherhood. With her second child on the way, the radio deejay shared the struggle that goes into making the holidays count. She elaborated on the frustration that comes with dealing with her daughter's tantrums and the importance of being there for her kid, no matter how independent she may seem.
As many mothers would relate, she added that she wishes she had more energy to take her daughter out and spend time indulging in fun experiences. To all mums struggling with the guilt and stress of making the school holidays memorable for your kids, you are doing your best and that is enough. Don't forget to take some time off for yourself, you deserve a break too.
Singers Tay Kewei and Alfred Sim brought their three boys out for their first beach vacation in Thailand, where they stayed at So Sofitel Hua Hin. It's all smiles for the three kids — nicknamed Shen Momo, Xiao Pian Pian and Sim Qiu Qiu — who were totally camera-ready and looked to be having the time of their lives. Kewei also shared other photos of their trip on her Instagram page, including visiting the Nayang Bat Cave, where a massive exodus of bats recurs each evening, and having fun on the mini golf lawn of the resort.
The month of May drew to a close and online personality Mongchin Yeoh, otherwise known as Mongabong, marked this juncture with a recap of her past few weeks. One of them included watching her baby son Micah attend his first swimming class. Stating her desire to witness and celebrate his milestones in her post, the new mum admitted that she was still figuring out ways to balance her career and parenthood to be "the best working mum" she could be for her family.
A struggle most working mums will relate to, dealing with work and the demands of motherhood is often an ongoing journey. When it gets overwhelming, you can always slow down and take things one day at a time.
More on the holiday updates, TV personality and mother of three, Diana Ser Lye posted a video of her spending time with her daughter at an arcade. She shared in the captions that the outing is Diana's way of helping her daughter take her mind off work, while also crediting her girl for the effort she puts into school and her studies.
Parents and children alike, we all need a break to recharge and recuperate. Sometimes, something as simple as a short outing and a few reassuring words may be all that the kids need.
Kicking off the holiday season right, entrepreneur and mother of four Yvon Bock headed to New Zealand on a family vacation to spend some much-needed quality time with her loved ones. Yvon shared pictures of the group, all smiles, as she reflected on the importance of creating lasting memories together as a family. Getting onboard Yvon's holiday spirit, here's to scheduling time of our own for relaxation and family bonding.
At some point, most of us would have wondered how we would have fared if we sat through the Marshmallow test by Stanford. Dawn Cher, better known as SG Budget Babe, tried the test with her five-year-old son. She replaced the marshmallow with gummy bears to see if her son could resist the urge to eat them. Although slightly fidgety, he managed to ace the test without any qualms.
Apart from delayed gratification being linked to higher rates of success in life, the test seems like a fun activity to occupy your kid's time. Curious parents can consider trying this experiment out with their kids too.
Concluding this week's round-up is a cute post to help chase away your Monday blues. Xiao Ming (Adrian Ang) shared a wholesome video of his wife entertaining his son who responded with adorable laughter. Caring for them may sometimes be frustrating and stressful, but babies can also be great serotonin boosters. We hope the video made you chuckle, just as we did.
