“The Food's More Fun" — Minion Land Singapore From A 7-Year-Old’s POV
Plus, some handy tips to know before your visit
By Faz Gaffa -
My husband and I are unabashed theme park junkies. One of our favourite wedding gifts were annual passes to Six Flags Magic Mountain when we lived in California and trust me when I tell you that we made full use of it. So it’s no surprise that our seven-year-old is equally an adrenaline junkie. There’s nothing quite like the escape of a theme park — the rides are always the main event, but the merchandise, the shows and the thematic food are the obligatory accoutrements. That means that he definitely has opinions on the brand new Minion Land that just opened in Universal Studios Singapore.
The new land, which has taken a few years to build, offers an exciting array of attractions, dining, and exclusive merchandise, all inspired by Illumination’s beloved Despicable Me and Minions franchises. Exclusive to Universal Studios Singapore are Buggie Boogie – the first-ever Minion dance party-themed carousel – and Super Hungry Food Stand, the all-new, larger-than-film version of the waterfront snack stand from Despicable Me.
Here’s what my seven-year-old has to say about Minion Land in Singapore.

The vibe

Minion Land, while not expansive, like most of Universal Studios, is colourful, and larger-than-life, much like the movies. You’ll find yourself immersed in the colourful buildings, some of which are home to merch shopping, rides and eateries.
The food in Minion Land

We’d welcome annual passes if USS still had them, but unfortunately for our bank accounts, we know the park’s food by the back of our hands. And while there are some thematic food offerings scattered throughout the theme park, the options in Minion Land seem to be well thought-out.
From child-friendly Asian picks like rice with Japanese curry and vegetables with chicken karaage to veggie burgers, the menu at the Super Hungry Food Stand restaurant in Minion Land is extensive, and actually delicious! Bonus points for the Minion-shaped mantou bun served with chilli crab sauce — and check out the banana-flavoured popcorn at the Pop-a-nana food stand.
Like all theme park prices, food at Minion Land costs a pretty penny, especially with how adorable they look — from $9 for a raspberry ice cream cone to $15 for a banana cake pop and $20 for a vegetarian burger.
The rides in Minion Land

Universal Studios Singapore is not one with a lot of thrill rides, which may be a dampener for thrill-seekers, but for those with smaller children, Minion Land adds three more rides to your Universal Studios itinerary:
Despicable Me Minion Mayhem was easily our favourite ride of the three, featuring an ultra-fun-for-the-whole-family simulator ride where you will be taken on an unpredictable adventure through Gru’s supervillain laboratory and even be transformed into a Minion.
However, he wishes that the ride had elements of Universal Studios Orlando’s ultra-fun Minion Blast ride where you get to use a ray gun to shoot targets, and thought it would have added more pizzazz to the simulator ride.
The Madagascar carousel ride is now replaced by Buggie Boogie, which is also a carousel, exactly at the spot where the old one was — and you can’t have a theme park without a good ol’ carousel for sure. The rides are all good for younger kids — the ones with loud sounds may only be Despicable Me Minion Mayhem, but little fans of the show may still appreciate them.
The third is Silly Swirly, where you can hop on individual carriages and whizz through the air while taking in views of Super Silly Fun Land and the lagoon.
Don't miss the shows

As with Universal theme parks, you can’t miss taking photos with your favourite characters. The most famous Minion trio, Bob, Stuart, and Kevin show up for Meet and Greets, as do Gru and Lucy, and the whole Despicable Me family for portraits on the stage between Hollywood and Minion Land. The lines get filled up quickly, but you can check out the timings on the app (available on Google Play and Apple) to be ready.
Little kids and big kids who adore the Minions shouldn’t miss the Minion Dance Party and Minute of Minion Mayhem Show, the latter will have your kids rolling in delight because it’s choreographed chaos — with the Minions dancing and causing a ruckus, as they do in their movies.
Minion merch

There are three stores available: Sweet Surrender, Pop Store and Fun Store.
If you or your kids are zooming in on Minion merch, you’d be thrilled to find everything you need — and want at Sweet Surrender, including stuffed toys from $20, bag charms from $8 and adult T-shirts from $35.
Fun Store has more toys that kids can interact with, such as the ray guns from the movie franchises and Pop Store has more localised Universal Singapore Minion Land merch. While they’re named differently, the stores are actually joined together to form a bigger store.
“I’m so happy it’s now open!”
Minion Land is definitely a much-needed update to Universal Studios Singapore after 15 years of opening and it has added flavour and so much colour. Of course, it helps that we no longer need to make a detour when we get to Shrek’s castle now — we just walk straight up to Gru’s door.
Good to know for parents:
- There are meet-and-greets with the Minions, Gru and Lucy and even an opportunity to take a family portrait with the whole crew throughout the day. Download the Universal Studios app for most updated timings.
- Children under 122cm need to be accompanied by an adult on all three rides, but Silly Swirly is allowed for kids from 92cm.
- There is a bathroom with a changing table within Minion Land.
- There are not many sheltered spots or seating areas within Minion Land, but you could simply backtrack to Hollywood or Far Far Away for a breather.
- If you’re going in early 2025, cover the rest of Universal Studios before going to Minion Land because lines get very long very quickly.
- Conservatively, with medium-length lines, it would take about 1.5 to 2 hours to cover Minion Land if you want to do all three rides, and some meet-and-greets.
