In marriage, children can be one of the greatest threats to happiness. While this may sound ridiculous, it can be all too true when parents get caught up in child rearing, putting all their energy into their offspring and neglecting their relationship. Unfortunately, kids can sometimes rule your marriage if you've allowed them to be the focal point of your family life.

Author Dr William Doherty, whose wrote A Strong Marriage says focusing too much on our kids can cause relationships to unravel. “Parenting has become a 24-hour, seven-day-a week store, with service on demand, and it is often to the detriment of marrige," he says.

In Singapore, a total of 7,614 marriages ended in a divorce or an annulment in 2016, which is up 1.2 per cent from the 7,522 marital dissolutions in 2015, according to the Singapore Department of Statistics.
