Police statistics last year reported that while overall crime rate in Singapore remains low, Internet scam rates have increased by 4%.

These days, Internet scammers are getting increasingly smarter at conning and scamming money out of innocent people. Their methods have evolved over the years and it's no longer just about threatening to blackmail an innocent person for money.

Recently, The Straits Times reported that several people were scammed into purchasing the latest iPhone 7 through mobile app Carousell. Buyers were made to pay $200 (some more) as deposit for the new phone. The seller, who claimed to be an employee of a local telco, then disappeared with the money and was uncontactable.
