I have been using my current electric glass kettle for almost five years now, it is still working as it should, boiling our daily drinking water.

However, my electric kettle has met all the tell-tale signs that it needs a replacement – rust, limescale build-up, as well as meeting the average kettle’s lifespan of four to five years.

Electric kettles are more electricity-saving

According to NEA’s energy-saving tips, boiling water when needed is the best way to save on the electricity bill. Using an electric air-pot to keep your water warm consumes energy continuously, and can add up to your bill amounting to approximately $30 a month. NEA also suggests using an external thermos flask or bottle to keep the water warm, instead of reboiling it every time it cools down.

Instant-boil water dispensers popular amongst new homeowners

While tankless water dispensers are all the rage among homeowners today, it is not in my consideration for now, due to their steep upfront cost, regular servicing fee and filter consumables. Alternatively, you can also check out some of the instant boil water dispenser options that come with removable water tanks available in the market.

Electric kettle functions

Like my current electric kettle, I hope that my next kettle comes with essential features like having water storage capacity of more than 1.5 litres, water level display, automatic power off switch. Additionally, it will be good to have a lightweight electric kettle that comes with a double wall cool touch body, rapid boil function and wide opening for easy cleaning and maintenance.

As a kitchen appliance that will stay on my kitchen countertop, I will also be looking out for an electric kettle that blends in well with my kitchen decor.

All of the electric kettles listed are “cordless” and come with a separate kettle base with cord storage for safety considerations.
