H&M And Other Brands Who've Recently Suffered PR Mishaps

Swedish fast fashion label, Hennes & Mauritz, better known as H&M, caused a media frenzy when a photo of one of their products went viral for alleged racism. 

The conversational item, a green hoodie with the slogan "Coolest Monkey In The Jungle", was worn by an African-American child in the photo. Netizens started accusing H&M for being racist and unaware of the cultural significance that the word 'monkey' has on African-American culture. 

For the uninitiated, 'monkey' and the depiction of African-American people as monkeys, is considered racist and highly disrespectful primarily because White American scientists as early as the 1800s used to consider African-Americans as being more simian than human. 2017 was a bad year for United Airlines. After a video of a bloodied passenger being dragged off a flight surfaced, United was faced with a storm of backlash. 

The passenger, identified as David Dao, had refused to depart from his flight. As a result, he was dragged off the flight by Chicago's Department of Aviation Security forcefully. Watch the video below:
