The dining table is usually the largest piece of loose furniture in your space. As such, it plays a significant role in the look and function of your space. Especially these days when you might not only dine on it but also work, learn and socialise.

How do you choose one?

1. Size matters

Measure your dining space and bring a measuring tape when you are shopping for the table.

2. Make sure it matches the chairs

Match both the size and the style. You want at least a 30cm- gap between the bottom of the tabletop and the seat of the chair.

3. Form follows function

A dining table has a long lifespan, so conventional wisdom says that you should pick a timeless and simple design. But if you intend for it to be the room’s centrepiece, you may opt for a more playful or sculptural design. Just remember that it shouldn’t bore you after only a year or two.
