Here's How Wearing All Black Could Make You Look Older
Unless you are intentionally trying to portray a more mature image, here are five fashion habits you should avoid that can potentially make you look a decade older!
- Wearing Black From Head To Toe
Black is the ultimate non-colour: We love it because it’s edgy, versatile and we feel slimmer in it. However, as you age, your skin becomes paler and your complexion gets a little more washed out.
When you wear a full black ensemble, it can read as being too harsh against your aging skin, and you run the risk of highlighting the wrinkles, fine lines and dark shadows on your face. It may also lend the impression that you are exhausted and even unwell.
Instead, the colours you wear should bring light to your face. Depending on your skintone, you can start with colours like red or blue as they go well with most skin tones.
Alternatively opt for navy blue or grey, they're still dark and slimming!

Ill-fitting clothes are unacceptable at any age, and this is an even bigger no-no when you’re at a later stage in your life.
When your clothes are too long, too baggy or too boxy, they can give the impression that you are very conservative; or that you are trying to conceal your body under all those layers of excess fabric.
This is not to say that you have to start busting out all your figure-hugging dresses, or that you should avoid the straight cut mom/boyfriend jeans styles that are trending right now.
The point we're trying to make is this: As a grown woman, it’s crucial that you know how clothes are supposed to fit your own body. You should be wearing stuff that’s well-tailored and flatters your body shape. Only then will you look chic and well-put together.
3. Too Much Jewellery
There’s something about a huge and hefty necklace that screams, I am very mature! Some older ladies are bedecked with jewellery, and this styling decision can be a dead giveaway of your age.

You might have painstakingly amassed a haul of sparkling baubles over the years but remember, jewellery's primary purpose is subtle adornment.
Go for pieces that accent your features without looking too heavy or dramatic: For instance, a large necklace paired with large earrings or matching jewellery sets are a huge no-no.
Platinum, white gold or silver are some of the more youthful precious materials around but of course, I understand that nothing can ever replace yellow gold. If your outfit only goes with a more traditional piece of jewellery, keep it discreet. 4. Wearing The Wrong Sized Bra
We’ve been hammering home the importance of wearing the right bra, so it’s no surprise that wearing the wrong bra size can make you look shorter and older. An ill-fitting bra shrinks your torso and affect how every item in your wardrobe fits.
The solution? Remember to get new measurements for your bust once a year, because a woman’s body undergoes a lot of changes over time. Weight gain or loss and hormonal changes, for instance, may affect your breast size.

This is probably the most serious fashion faux paus to make. The matchy-matchy “rule” was obsolete years ago – it’s a surefire way of adding years to your appearance.
The thing is, if you are still matching the colour of your eyeshadow to your handbag and your shoes, it’s time to rethink the way you put your ensemble together.
As long as there’s a cohesive theme to your entire outfit, who cares if you mix things up?
