Winter Fashion Trends To Steal From Stylish Korean Celebrities

Stay warm while looking cool

December is the best time for holidays because school's out. But it's also C-O-L-D in most countries that are not in the Equator or Southern Hemisphere. From someone who came back from South Korea two weeks ago and survived temperatures that ranged from 4 to -4 degrees Celcius, here are some things to note when you're headed to a wintry destination (that is not Iceland, Harbin or on the list of world's coldest places because that is a story for another day).

Pack those Uniqlo Heattechs

Opt for Ultrawarm because the normal Heattech ain't gonna help unless you have really, really good tolerance for the cold.

  • Get a good puffer jacket.
  • Leave your coats and unlined leather jackets at home. A puffer is all you need to survive the cold. If your legs get cold easily, opt for the long ones.
  • Not all puffers are made equal. Just because it looks puffy, it doesn’t mean it will protect you from the frigid air. Look at the label to check what temperature it is good for. Also, remember to try it on in stores. If you still feel cold in the aircon temperature, chances are, it won’t keep you warm in the winter.

Don't layer too much

If you’re planning to spend time indoors, don’t layer too many Heattechs and sweaters because you will sweat. This is why you need a good jacket – it can protect you outdoors, and you will still feel comfortable after removing it indoors.

Protect those legs

Use Heattech leggings under unlined pants or skirts. Want to wear short skirts, but don’t want to pair them with black leggings? Cart out the skin-toned fleeced-lined stockings from Shopee.

Bring a beanie

Some people underestimate the importance of a beanie. It’s not just a fashion accessory – it can protect your ears (and head) from the cold, so you don’t get a headache.

Get a thick scarf

A scarf is important because you will feel less cold when your neck is covered. Instead of getting the knitted ones with large holes (wind can get through), get cashmere or cable knit ones.

Protect your hands

Use gloves to protect your hands from the cold. You might think, well, I can just shove them into my pockets. Think again. Your hands will most probably be chapped, and if your pockets come with zippers, the abrasion will result in tiny cuts on your hands. Trust me, been there, done that. Hence, just wear gloves.

You’re probably envisioning that you’ll end up looking like a kimbap at this point. The good news is, we have rounded up winter fashion trends to steal from stylish Korean celebs so you can be warm and fashionable.

Blackpink's Jennie

Determined to use a leather jacket? Make sure they’re lined with fleece. Blackpink's Jennie paired hers with a turtleneck and tight pants. The former protects her neck, while the latter keeps her warm as wind can’t enter from below.

Kim Tae-ri

If you find scarves a hassle to deal with, get a jacket with a high collar like actress Kim Tae-ri did. Alternatively, H&M has a down coat with a detachable scarf, so you don’t have to worry about it constantly slipping off your neck.

Aespa's Karina

“But didn’t you say no leather jackets?” The good news is, some puffer or padded bomber jackets now come in leather finish. Karina of girl group Aespa looks absolutely chic in this leather bomber jacket.

Kim Go-eun

Yes, your Heattech will keep you warm. But if you’re layering it with a thin shirt, you’re not helping your case. Take cues from Kim Go-eun and layer with a hoodie for extra warmth.

Shin Min-ah

Who says you can’t wear a dress in cold weather? All you gotta do is layer with Heattech, and wear the fleeced-lined stockings. We love this look on actress Shin Min-ah!

Lee Da-hee

Love prints but not sure how to incorporate them for winter? Get inspired by model and actress Lee Da-hee, and opt for a printed jacket! However, remind yourself that you need to wear the jacket every day (or every other day, if you’re bringing an extra jacket), so make sure the prints can match most of your outfits!

Choi Soo-young

Don’t like puffer jackets? Why not opt for fleece, if you have a good tolerance for cold. It may not be as warm as a down jacket, but it can provide good warmth when layered properly, like how singer Choi Soo-young wears it.
