For the first time in the show's over 50-year history, Doctor Who's lead will be a woman. British actress Jodie Whittaker will play the 13th Doctor Who, a Time Lord who regenerates every so often in a completely new body.

 

Fans of the BBC sci-fi series have mixed reactions: While some are applauding the show's braveness in breaking the glass ceiling and giving more opportunities to female actors, others are crying foul that a beloved character will no longer be male.
