4 Ways To Be Friendly With Your Boss

Being friends with your boss is fine, but take heed of these guidelines

Be Professional

To be safe, always maintain a semi-professional relationship no matter what’s your status with your boss. This includes what you post on social media – no wild party photos of silly comments that can mar your professional image. Keep conversations light and avoid encroaching on anything too personal.

Be Aware How You’re Connected

Apart from being superior and subordinate, you and your boss may be linked personally through friends or family. So don’t talk about your sex life , and refrain from discussing your job performance while having a drink out on the town.

Be Honest

Don’t ask for favours or do something that may make you seem like you’re “sucking up”. These could lead to allegations of professional misconduct that could jeopardise your career.

Be Respected

Sometimes the best way to get your boss’ attention is to command real respect. This means delivering solid work, avoiding office politics and gossip, and being able to accept criticism when it’s given.
