How: Traditional Chinese Tui Na Massage (60 minutes)
If your body’s feeling out of sync – tight shoulders, poor sleep or lingering aches – this is your sign to reset.
Named Best Overall Tui Na Experience in this year’s Spa Awards, the Traditional Chinese Tui Na Massage at St. Gregory at Pan Pacific Singapore is the kind of treatment your body will thank you for.
Rooted in Traditional Chinese Medicine, tui na – which translates to “push” and “pull” in Mandarin – is a time-tested therapy that combines deep-tissue massage with targeted acupressure.
At St. Gregory, therapists use a range of skilled movements including kneading, squeezing and pressing along the body’s meridian points – to stimulate circulation, unblock energy channels and release deep-seated muscular tension.
It’s especially beneficial for those experiencing menstrual cramps, postnatal discomfort, insomnia or even sluggish digestion. Though just as ideal if, like Spa Awards reviewer Terri Kue, you’ve returned from a holiday more exhausted than when you left.
Pressure with purpose
“I could feel the tension in my shoulders and back,” she said. “I wanted my body to feel loose and relaxed again, and to get rid of the pain in my lower back.”
Inside the treatment room, small, thoughtful touches stood out. “They had unscented oil, which is such a thoughtful option,” shared Terri.
And while she expected to feel overheated from the massage’s circulation-boosting effects, the environment remained perfectly regulated. “Not once did I feel like the room temperature was too hot or cold, which was surprising to me because I expected to feel hot with the massage stimulating my blood circulation,” she said.
Terri admitted she was expecting the “good kind of pain” but was surprised by how the therapist attentively worked with her comfort zone throughout. “She noticed when I flinched, adjusted her technique, and even remembered to go gentler on my more sensitive spots,” she said. When Terri also mentioned pain in her shoulder blades, the therapist immediately switched techniques and worked on the area slowly until the discomfort eased.
Her favourite moment? The back massage, as “the warmth of the therapist’s hands working their way down my spine was heavenly. I also loved the foot massage – all the tension in my legs just melted away.”
After the session, she was served tea and invited to relax in the lounge. “I didn’t have time to stay, but even just being able to sit and sip my tea without any interruptions was the perfect end.”
Deep relief, delivered
If you’re looking for a no-fluff, results-driven massage in the city that doesn’t skimp on serenity, this tui na experience is as therapeutic as it is transportive. “My whole body felt loose, and the tension in my shoulders, which no other therapist has been able to fix, was completely gone,” said Terri. “It was the reset I didn’t know I needed.”
And for those who want to make a full wellness day out of it, guests of St. Gregory also enjoy access to Pan Pacific Singapore’s wellness and lifestyle facilities. These include a brand-new gym fitted with Technogym equipment, plus the outdoor pool, steam room and shower amenities – perfect if you’re carving out a full afternoon to recover, recharge or just reclaim some peace.
