This year saw far too many famous faces who left the world much too soon. These celebrities touched us in ways we couldn't imagine, lifted us up in times of hardship or sorrow, and provided us with endless memories.

Aloysius Pang

The Singaporean actor died on January 23 after suffering injuries as a result of being crushed by a gun barrel in a self-propelled Howitzer while on reservist. He was 28.

Karl Lagerfeld

The creative director of Chanel, Fendi and his own eponymous fashion line, Karl Lagerfeld died in February 19. He was 85. Born in Germany, he began designing for Fendi in 1965 and joined Chanel as creative director in 1983, reviving the famed fashion house founded by Coco Chanel.

Luke Perry

The Beverly Hills 90210 actor was a 90s heartthrob but had a steady slew of TV shows in the 00s and more recently on Netflix's Riverdale. He died of a stroke in March at the age of 52.

Peter Mayhew

The British actor best known for playing the furry hero Chewbecca in the Star Wars films died April 30, at 74.

Toni Morrison

The famed author of books like I Know Why The Caged Bird Sings died August 6 at the age of 88. In 1993, she became the first black woman to win the Nobel Prize for Literature.

Sulli

The former member of K-pop girl group f(x) was found dead in her apartment in South Korea on October 14. She was 25. Sulli, whose real name Choi Jin-ri, began her career in 2009 with f(x) but left in 2015 to pursue a solo career. Besides music, she acted in a number of movies and TV shows.

Goo Hara

K-pop star, and incidentally Sulli's close friend, Goo Hara was found dead on November 24 at her home in Seoul. She was a member of popular girl group Kara but also made the leap into solo stardom in 2015. She acted on the side in multiple TV and film roles.

Godfrey Gao

Taiwanese-Canadian actor and model Godfrey Gao died on November 27 after suffering an apparent heart attack while filming Chase Me, a Chinese reality show that featured intense physical competition. It remains unclear what caused Godfrey's death. He was 35.

Cha In-ha

Korean actor Cha In-ha's manager found his body on December 4 at his home and alerted the police who pronounced him dead at the scene. Authorities are currently investigating the details, but no cause of death has been released. He was 27.

Marie Fredriksson

Marie Fredriksson, lead singer of the Swedish band Roxette, died December 17 at 61. She succumbed to a 17-year battle with cancer. Her many hits with the band include Must Have Been Love, Listen To Your Heart and Joyride.
